I didn’t necessarily have the highest hopes for the comedy show, but I went in with an open mind. Unfortunately it was back to back cringe worthy comedians with quite similar material that really wasn’t all that funny. Maybe that’s a bit harsh, there may have been 2-3 comedians that were pretty decent.
There’s room for a lot of improvement with the decor… A LOT! The photos on Google seem very very outdated and doesn’t seem like the same venue.
Drinks wise, it was okay. But it was a bit gross when the person behind the bar used her hands to pick up the limes that were going in my drink.
As the other reviews mention - don’t get the VIP ticket. It makes no difference with the seating… And the gift is one free ticket for 2 to a future show 😂🤣… Cheeky!!!

Well, this was definitely a weird experience. Felt more like a place where amateur and first-time comedians try their material for the first time. Only some of the several comedians in the line-up were funny, and I even considered leaving in the middle of the show.
The sound was bad, too, we couldn’t hear some of the jokes as the audio was muffled. Definitely not worth your money.

THIS PLACE SUCKS. All the “comedians” need training on how to use a microphone and the sound tech needs some training as well.
The comedians may have been humorous if you had been able to understand what they were saying!

It’s funny going to the old Heaven and Hell dance spot for comedy these days! The place hasn’t changed — drinks are still terrible, it’s not the cleanest spot — but now they put up a stage and chairs for comedy. I went with an open mind but sorry to say these were not the best comics DC had to offer. I had a better time at a comedy pop-up at Origin Gallery on Mt. Pleasant street, walking distance from here. Giving 2 stars because it wasn’t horrible - we did laugh a little bit.

Had the most incredible experience at Seussical the Musical! I sat front row and was completely taken by the sets, costumes, and AMAZING talent. The talent was unmatched. I laughed, cried, and danced through the engaging show and I CANNOT wait to visit Keegan theatre again for their next production. A small theater that had made a huge impact on me. Highly recommend—every bit of my experience was worth it.

I saw Seussical last night with my 3 siblings and it was INCREDIBLE! The cast, the set, the costumes, the energy- amazing. They took a small, beautiful space and a timeless story and they made it work in such a special way. This show is the main reason I came to DC this month, and I am very happy I made that choice. The Keegan Theater has a new life long stan. I will be back! And if you saw me crying in the front row for the entire 75 minute performance, yes you did. Bravo!

I went with my three sisters last night because we wanted to relive our childhood experience of all being in Seussical: The Musical (Us as Jojo, Mayzie, and Gertrude, the youngest sister we just brought along for the ride because we did it before her time). Two sisters came all the way from Richmond and one even came from Austin Texas! I had never been to the theatre before but I live only a few blocks away.
Well let me just say we were absolutely blown away. The location is adorable, in the middle of a residential street in Dupont Circle. The set looked great, with delightful details, and the live band gave an amazing energy. We sat in the front row and cried the entire time because the performances were so great. I would recommend this theatre to anybody. This is a local treasure. We thought the standouts in the show were Tori Gomez as The Sour Kangaroo, Sarah Chapin as Gertrude McFuzz, and Stephen Russell Murray as the mayor. Childhood successfully relived!

Keegan is a secret gem in Dupont Circle. We saw Seussical the Musical

Really enjoyed my first experience at this black box theater. The seats are comfortable and there isn't a bad seat in the house. There is a small concessions stand with bar fare, and little and thoughtful touches like a coat rack made it a comfortable and enjoyable theater night experience.

The host of this show is… so gross. It was in a weird windowless loft area of the top of what seemed to be an apartment foyer. Camping chairs were set up for seating. The host was incredibly misogynistic and his jokes overall just made no sense and were uncomfortable. The whole crowd felt it. The other comedians were okay, some of them weren’t garnering many laughs and made some awkward silences with really misogynistic content. I won’t be back—there are so many legitimate comedy clubs in DC with comics who have content besides degrading women. Very bizarre experience overall.
Also this was advertised as a jazz comedy night, with jazz music prior to the show. By that they meant they played music from the 50s on a blue tooth speaker. So weird. And tix were $25 each. Support more respectful vendors.

The April 8th show was disappointing. The emcee was awful; nothing funny came out of his mouth. The microphone/sound was poor - at least check it out before the show starts. The music was so loud before the event started, that I couldn't talk to my wife. Maybe three of the eight comics were any good; it seemed like they grabbed one stoned guy off the street and let him try to talk for 5 minutes. The only good thing was the artwork surrounding the stage. We had two bottled beers and a piece of cake for $25. The bottled Corona with a lime was the best thing!

Everything about this place was horrible. First of all, it doesn’t matter what tickets you buy because you get the same seats. There is no “special gift” if you want to spend more money. Before the show, there is random music playing - they play like 2 minutes of the song and then change it. There were like 8 comedians that performed and only one of them were kind of funny. The host made the show super awkward, like he was a frat guy who never grew up. The seating was very weird and the seats felt like they were going to break. The drinks were terribly small and filled with ice.
I really like comedy shows and I was trying to like this, but it was horrid. Find a different show to see in DC.

Great local talent. Intimate space. Wish they would update the seating chairs though; I was holding my breath as I sat on a chair with a shaky leg lol. We felt like I was gonna fall at any minute. The food is not good. The drinks are strong depending on who is pouring them. Just go for the jokes and get drinks downstairs and you’ll be fine.

First time there. elegant, intellectual political small space. Think old church.
They are replicating Greak dramatic plays from 500 BC. Near Dupont Circle & Embassies of poorer countries.

Visiting from out of town, we have been to shows all over the world, from Broadway to the West End, and to shows all over DC and we happen to catch Chicago at the Keegan Theater, and it was a fantastic production. The Keegan is a small, intimate theater with a neighborhood feel, but don’t let its size fool you. The production was first class! The actors are experienced and talented, the show was well produced, and the orchestra played beautifully. We will definitely be back, and highly recommend. Bravo!

My wife and I attended the Keegan Theatre performance of "The Full Monty" and had a great time.
Keegan is a small theatre tucked into the middle of a residential street near Dupont Circle, but if you enjoy quality theatre without all the bells and whistles (and high prices) of Broadway (or Kennedy/Fords locally), I would definitely recommend Keegan.
I don't know exactly how many seats there are, but it couldn't have been more than a couple of hundred, so for the performance, there really isn't a bad seat in the house. Which is good, since seating is general admission, first-come, first-served only. There are some light snacks available for a $1 donation, and a "bar" area that serves a selection of beer, wine, soft drinks, and water for reasonable prices ($2-5). There are two small restrooms downstairs and at intermission, it took pretty much the entire break for the line to work its way around. The vestibule is very small and can be cramped before the show and during the break, but it's to be expected, and you can always step out onto Church St. for some fresh air (or a smoke, if that's your thing).
On the bright side, they announced at the show that the Company had recently finalized a purchase of the property and their capital campaign to renovate the space was in full swing. Once the improvements are done, the experience will be even better, I'm sure.
The show itself was a lot of fun. I was a little worried about the quality of the talent, having never seen a show here before, but I was more than pleasantly surprised. All of the actors were very very good, with a great comedic timing and delivery.
An exceptional value (tickets are $40, but you can usually find discounts online) and a very enjoyable night out.
