Clear evidence of the proud Sri Lankan history. Too bad the constructions were burnt and damaged by multiple invaders.

Polonnaruwa was the second kingdom of ancient Sri Lanka. The ancient city has numerous sites that you can visit including the Palace of King Parakramabahu, Palace of King Nissankamalla, Council Chamber (Ancient Parliament). A good 4-5 hours are needed to explore the whole area. If you are a foreigner getting a guide is highly advisable as there are many interesting stories behind the ruins.

The entry ticket for a foreigner is USD 30 for the entire city complex. Tickets can be purchased at the Archeological museum. The ticket price however does not include a guide fee. Hopefully the authorities can consider including a guide for this fee. No tickets required for Sri Lankan citizens.

Once inside the complex, the point of interest are spread around the area and a car/ tuktuk or bicycle is recommended to travel from one to another. A vehicle pass (Rs 50) must be acquired at the gate if you wish to travel to the the places by car. Bicycles are available for rental and that is the most preferable method if you don't have a car.

This restaurant is no longer serving Indian food. The menu has Western, Chinese and Italian cuisine only.

Tried the mix fried rice with the hot butter cutle fish. Did not like either. However, the prices and pretty low and the portion is very big. The large fried rice can easily be shared with 3 people. Wish the food quality was better.
