The Robert R. McCormick Museum is a stunning 35-room mansion that was the home of Chicago Tribune Editor and Publisher Colonel Robert McCormick. Completed in 1897, the mansion is filled with period artifacts from the Civil War through the early 1900’s. One favorite is the handwritten letter from Abraham Lincoln to the Chicago Tribune requesting a back issue in November 1860. Amazing.
The ponds and fountains and serene. There are dozens of formal and informal gardens and a wide variety of flowers and trees. (See photos.) The Mansion is open most days for tours. It was cool seeing where scenes from Tom Hank’s "A League of Their Own" were shot. There are a number of different tours but the Full House tour shows you the most. The staff obviously love being here.
Admission to the mansion/museum is free. You pay a $10 fee per carload as you come into McCormick’s Cantigny Park. Allow time to see the other sites at Cantigny including the extraordinary Big Red One First Division US Army Military Museum and dozens of tanks and vehicles you can climb. There is also a 27-hole golf course, playgrounds, a gift shop and restaurant.
Cantigny is usually open daily except January and Mondays and is about 30 miles west of Chicago. See the cantigny organization website for schedules.

Pensacola Naval Air Station or "Pensacola" as it is known, is the home of the Blue Angles and the National Naval Aviation Museum. The museum features 150 aircraft and spacecraft plus simulators and an iMax theater. Come see the Blue Angels practice, check out the simulators, and see the exhibits. This is a great experience.
There is often a practice airshow on Fridays from spring through fall that is often open to the public. Check ahead as schedules frequently change.
Final note is that this is a real, working air station. This review is only about the two parts most open to the public.
