Guanella Pass Summit
2022 Oct 04
The Guanella Pass Summit is not only the place to go to climb Mount Bierstadt but it is also an amazing place to watch the sunrise!! The sun comes right over the peaks and illuminates the mountains and wilderness perfectly in this area. It does get cold, it was 30 degrees and had frosted everything this morning. If you’re looking to do a 14er or just want a great hike then Bierstadt is perfect for that! Bierstadt was the 2nd 14er I ever did years ago and it was a great starter. The views at the top are awesome as you can see Mount Evans over the ridge line as well. Just like any 14er, bring plenty of food, water, sunscreen, and layers. Watch for the early afternoon lightning and have a blast! Normally the area has wonderful fall foliage as well but it looks like it’s dying off quick this year!
Kendrick Lake Park
2022 May 11
I ended up at Kendrick Lake Park completely by accident and I am glad I did!! There was a storm I was chasing through the area and I wanted to go somewhere good for the sunset so I ended up here! I highly recommend walking around the trail for the entire lake because the landscape changes quite a bit and you can get great shots from all around the lake. I found a beautiful Heron sitting in the bushes and it kept moving around the lake so it was great to get it from different vantage points. The lake is relatively small so the waves are not too bad which make for some still, peaceful shots of the lake. This is a great place to catch a sunset at a less crowded park near Denver!
Valley of the Gods
2022 May 02
Valley of the Gods is an absolute gem! There were nearly no people here when we went although it was the middle of the summer so it was extremely hot! The camping was great and this is one of the best places I have found to do astrophotography thanks to the lack of light pollution that's in the area. If you're looking to go somewhere off the beaten path this is a great place to visit!
This was my favorite place I found in Sebastian Inlet State Park to watch a sunrise! There are lots of fisherman here in the morning but they are very friendly and willing to work together if you are out there to shoot the sunrise. The moss on the rocks add a special dynamic to the waves crashing at sunrise.
