Driving through Akeley we decided to stop at the Paul Bunyan museum. Even though the museum wasn’t open it was a fun little stop. The nicest and kindest lady stopped and just started talking to us telling about the museum and took some photos of us. We grew up learning about Paul Bunyan and his story so it was a nice stop to stretch the legs and enjoy some time there.
We only had a short stay in Marquette so we planned to visit Presque Isle Park and Clark Lambros beach park It was an enjoyable hike in around the park and to the Black Rocks. Nice views of the impressive Lake Superior. We enjoyed just relaxing and seeing some wildlife and the weather was nice. Overall a nice way to spend a couple of hours.
My wife and I decided to visit the monument and pay our respects. You can only be inspired by the journey he took and the sacrifice he made. You can read his story and learn about his run and the amount of money he raised. In the background as you look across the water you can also see the sleeping giant. It is well worth visiting.
A great stop for us, from the excellent staff who were very polite and helpful. To learning about the history of the fort and the amazing lighthouse. We just walked around and took it all in, well worth a visit and inexpensive.
While staying in Saint Jean Sur Richelieu my wife and I decided to take a drive along the Richelieu River which was a very pleasant drive to Fort Chambly. The fort is situated on the Richelieu River and adjacent park. We had a really great time walking in and around the fort. The history and displays made it an enjoyable experience. The guides were helpful and polite and very knowledgeable. The fort and park is very well maintained and worth visiting if you have the time.
