La Napoli

Wonderful staff. Couldn't decide whether to speak French, Italian, or English. (Italian seemed most welcome.) A L'antica Pizzeria da Michele in Napoli wanna-be, but doesn't measure up. Crusts a little thick and burned or doughy on the edges. Great Margarita, and interesting vegetarian with large chunks of interesting veggies. BIG pour of wine. Very fair pricing and darned good pizza, just not superlative; maybe the best one can do in France? The spirit and attentiveness of the guys running the place made up for any failings: a great place for a pizza in Versailles.
La Bonne Fourchette

Right across the street from the covered market, with good parking. Apparently a secret local delight, this place had a good crowd after the market on Saturday. Everything is prepared in-house, and the chef is recognized for this. I went with the chef's specialty, the seafood choucroute, an unusual but surprisingly tasty French approach to sauerkraut. Great combination; who knew? Royan is close to the sea and the seafood was varied and fresh.
