East Village Pizza is one of the best pizza places in NYC and I realize that’s saying a lot. Their sauce is perfection. It’s so flavorful, we just love it. The dough is the right consistency and tastes fresh. I’m loving it right now. I must note this was through delivery and we don’t live close, so for the pizza to be this good, it’s just so impressive. Thank you, Frank, for making such delicious pizza.
We like all the employees here, especially at the deli. They are always efficient and so nice. The grocery itself surprisingly has a varied selection, and we haven’t had issues with expired stuff etc, which is always a plus.
Miyabi was a mixed bag and we will still be looking for a sushi place in NYC to go to. If you have any suggestions, feel free to let us know. We are currently 0 for 2 here.
Being near NYU, it seems to be a happening place, and we like busy places, bc to us it means the food will be fresher....yet we forgot that it also sometimes mean, that it may also be rushed.
The miso soup and salad that each came with our meals were great. No issues there.
Both orders of sushi came out within 2 minutes and had avocado in it that was discolored and didn't look fresh at all (pics included) which made me worried about the salmon and that's a no-no. Btw, I would be surprised if they use wild caught or sustainable anything here and the thought makes me sad.
The Philadelphia roll was inedible and should have been returned. The California roll was standard.
The vegetable tempura was the star, as it had a mix of vegetables, okra, eggplant, sweet potato, zucchini, etc.
The Thai basil fried rice didn't taste right at all though and must have been the worst Thai basil we've ever gotten. This is where things were clearly rushed, as the peas were still frozen and hard, same with the onions (I know, eww.) and the flavors didn't blend well.
For dessert, we ordered the mochi vanilla and red bean...both tasted the same and neither had much flavor. Lots of better ones at the supermarket.
So, this place may be a hit or miss, but there were too many issues with it to make it on our list of sushi restaurants to go back to.

The issues with this particular Key Food location are the following:
Quality: We have consistently found expired food on their shelves (make sure you always check the dates) and their produce is almost always bad.
Pricing: This Key Food is much pricier than all of the other local grocery stores including the Whole Foods that's a few blocks away. I found it to be double the price on quite a few items, including yogurt, pasta, and meat items. It doesn't make sense when the quality is this bad. When they do have sales, be careful of what you are getting for that discounted price.
Customer service: It's pretty much non-existent here. Employees don't seem happy here and management is not effective. Nobody seems to care about customers and everytime we come here, there are ridiculous lines.
Meat weights: The meat department doesn't weigh their meats properly so be careful or you may find yourself paying a lot extra for low quality meat.
Cleanliness and Organization: This store is just not clean and it's common to find things disorganized, out of place, etc.
After years of this being one of our neighborhood markets, we have decided to no longer shop here.
