Brisbane Airport
2024 Jun 09
Modern, well designed airport that makes for an impressive entrance to Queensland. Have only been through the domestic terminal which is clean and uncrowded, with lots of food options and easy transport to Brisbane city via the Airtrain. There is a free shuttle between International and Domestic terminals which are approximately 5 minutes’ drive from each other.
Virgin Lounge

Definitely a step above the Melbourne airport lounge. They seem to have more staff here so there isn’t the constant detritus of dirty plates and glasses that you see in Melbourne. Offers a good range of food, the usual wines / beers / cider as well as coffee and soft drinks. Definitely worth visiting if you’ve levelled up in status with Virgin.
Cathy Freeman Park

Large open grassed area next to the Olympic stadium. Has a public toilet next to it but no other facilities or shelter. A short walk from Olympic Park station as well as food and drink stores nearby. Good spot to attend concerts / festivals as well.
More of an Air feature on my visit (April 2024) the fountains seem to have been out of action for some time, so no point coming to check it out at present as there’s no water to be found. The surrounding promenade leading to the lookout tower is impressive and makes a good expedition for kids.
Treillage Tower

Impressive structure in Bicentennial Park that you can walk up to view the surrounding parklands and walkways. Closed after dark, it’s a good place to take the kids and tire them out walking up the stairs. Makes an impressive sight at night with the tower floodlit from below.
