Located in the Freedom Square, it was build as a memorial for those who fell during the Estonian War of Independence. The pillar is 23.5 m high. Its best appreciated at night when the columns is lighted.
Bereketzade Fountain
2018 Mar 13
The Bereketzade Fountain was built in 1733 on the square next to the Galata Tower, it used to be a fountain with drinkable water in this old part of the city. The fountain is built of marble and is arranged adjacent to the wall. Flower motifs are located at the bottom of the large right side.
The final resting place of the sultan Mehmed III, this mausoleum has also the remainings of the sultan`s wifes, sons and daughters. Next to this mausoleum there are more tombs where other Sultans and their families have the final rest. Once powerful men, now just powder and a touristic attraction, death is ironic.
Mariinsky Palace
2017 Oct 10
Historic palace built by orders of Nicholas I as a wedding present to his daughter. Now functions as a legislative hall for the city.
Yusupov Palace
2017 Oct 10
This is a 5 stars palace in terms of beauty and magnificent architecture, but unfortunately the main tour doesn't mention the basement and the murder of Rasputin. Also it has currently 5 rooms closed due to restoration. Although the ticket is expensive, I do recommend the visit, the rest of the rooms are magnificent. But don't buy in the souvenir store, the same items are half price in many souvenirs stores in the city.
