THEMUSEUM
2024 Jul 22
We visited on a Monday at 10:10am. They open at 10:00. It was empty. We paid $16.99 for seniors, which is 55 and up. She asked to see ID. There’s 4 floors and washrooms on each floor. This place is great for parents with kids. There isn’t much to do for adults. We did the virtual short movie- 9 minutes on the jungle meets the water. There’s 4 movies and some are 13 minutes long. You could spend close to an hour here if you watch all 4 movies. It’s not suitable for people who have vertigo because you can get dizzy. I also liked the immersive room. Kids will really like this room. The gift shop was closed at 11:00 and the employee said to give it another 20 minutes till opening. We did not see the dinosaur or some of the other stuff posted on their website. But I read that they change their exhibits from time to time. There also is no place to get something to eat. There was an area that said lounge with lots of chairs but that was closed. The place has elevators and is wheel chair accessible. There is parking connected to the museum and we paid $7 for 2 hours. We arrived an hour before the museum opened and were shocked to see a lot of homeless people walking around or in groups in front of some stores. And you could clearly some were high on drugs. Very sad. We didn’t feel safe to walk around. So we went into a coffee shop across from the museum. Later we saw a few police cars and some of the people seemed to move to another area. But this museum is worth the visit and we’re glad we did.
Toogood Pond Park
2024 Jun 23
We parked at 280 Main Street. That’s the beginning of the park and where you’ll find the pond. And the washrooms. The washrooms don’t have any signs on the door. There is a lookout over the pond. We saw a man fishing. You can park at 218 Main Street but that’s a busier parking lot and it’s the end of the park. But closer to downtown Unionville. Parking is free. Lots of Canadian geese at the entrance. It’s a pretty clean and well groomed park. There’s benches and a few picnic tables. The park actually goes in a roundabout. We saw a double crested cormorant and four turtles in the pond. There were some mosquitoes out. But it’s a nice park with 2 lookouts. We did not see any play grounds. And dogs have to be leashed. I would definitely return. And the times saying that they are closed Saturday and Sunday is not correct. I went in a Saturday around 9:00am and I know someone who went on a Sunday. So those times need to be changed.
Flato Markham Theatre
2024 Feb 25
We went to see Joseph and the amazing technicolor dream coat here. The theatre is quite large with comfortable chairs that have plenty of leg and body room. The sound was amazing as well as the lighting. I like that the row of chairs is not flat but on a slant. This theatre has a huge parking lot. I would definitely come back and see another play. You get more bang for your $35 ticket.
Orillia Opera House

This is a nice venue. It’s over 100 years old. I like the architecture. They share a parking lot with the library. We arrived a half hour before the play - “The play that goes wrong” and there was only one parking spot left in the lot. The library was closed. There was a parking kiosk but it was free at the time we went. The staff is friendly and he showed us to our seat. There is enough leg room but a little tight. The sound was great. The stage was bigger than I thought for a small venue. The stage set was amazing. Lots of props. We had a great time and enjoyed the play called , “The play that goes wrong”. It was 2 hours long with a 10 or 15 minute intermission. And for only $30 well worth the visit.
Sorento Restaurant

We booked online for New Year's Eve around 6:30. The restaurant is divided in 2 sides. The host at the door was very friendly. He seated us at a booth and gave us our menus. They had a New Year's Eve menu along with the regular menu. We ordered the turkey dinner for $30 and the lobster tail and shrimp for $35. I've seen lobster dinners go for more money than that.
The server was friendly and the service was fine. We order the carrot, Carmel cheesecake $7.50 and lemon pucker cake $7.50. Both desserts were delicious. The restaurant did feel chilly whenever the door opened. You could feel the draft and we sat 5 booths from the door. And the place needs more decor. It didn't feel Italian. But the food and service made up for it. I can tell they have a lot of regulars.
