Mauritshuis
2023 Dec 24
We visited this museum on a Sunday morning. We were the first visitors, it started becoming very crowded later on.
Why I recommend this museum:
1) The building
İt is a beautifully restored ancient 3 stories stone house. Pay attention to the exceptional wooden staircases.
2) Paintings by Johannes Vermeer, of which Girl with a Pearl Earring is the most famous.
3) Works by Rembrandt.
There is also a decent museum shop.
Enjoy
This is the world's richest Islamic Art Collection museum. First opened in 1914, it was moved to it's current location, Ibrahim Pasha Palace, in 1983. The palace, one of the most important surviving palace buildings of late 15th century, is a fine example of Ottoman civil architecture, rises above the old Hippodrome of 1520.
While the Hagia Sophia mosque, located near by, is crowded all the time, this museum is quiet, easy to visit. There is a very rich ancient Turkish carpets section also.
Beylerbeyi Palace
2023 May 24
This was the summer palace of Ottoman Sultans. It is located in Üsküdar, along the Bosporus. As photography is not allowed inside the museum, this post will not unfortunately include any photos. Ceilings and crystal chandeliers of each room, were the most beautiful ornaments that I had seen until then. The palace garden is big, green, surrounded with high orchid trees. There is a small cafeteria with hot and cold drinks, as well as salads, toasts and pastries.
Beylerbeyi Palace should be on top of any places to see list of İstanbul.
Pembe Köşk
2022 Nov 17
Pembe Köşk, (The Pink Mension) is one of the landmarks, in Ankara, of the Turkiye Cumhuriyet i, after the Cankaya Mension, the house where Mustafa Kemal Atatürk lived after he became president.
Ismet Inonu, a close friend and second in command during the Independence War, bought this house in 1923, and moved there, with his family in 1925, after the completion of the renovations. Ismet Inonu lived in Pembe Köşk until his death in 2973. The house is still an Inonu property, open to the public only for a brief period of time in Novembers.
The house has a magestic dining hall, with it's furniture a gift of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. He would call from Cankaya Mension, inform that he would come for dinner, would sit at the head of the table, and discuss with the guests the important issues of the new republic.
I was fortunate to have the opportunity to visit Pembe Köşk in November 2022. It is part of Turkish history.
Ruby Coffee Bodrum

A quite, open air, Coffee house, at Ortakent Bodrum, with delicious coffee selections. They serve beer also. There is also a card system where the 7th coffee or the 10th beer taken will be free. Worthwhile for giving it a try.
