The plight of stairs you climb on your knees is based on the belief they are the steps Jesus climbed on the way to meet Pilate for trial, brought here from Jerusalem by Queen Helena. And the altar behind is a deposit of relics of Sts. Peter, Paul and numerous other saints! A holy place indeed-holy steps(Scala santa). Superb venture in that beautiful town, Alzenau, Germany, by a Sikh - Punjabi family ! I enjoyed the dinner on two occasions! Appreciated much by local residents too.
