Chungkiwa Restaurant

We usually frequent another family-style Korean restaurant in Schaumburg - which we've loved over the years! Wanted to try something new for a change.

Ambience is very cozy - booths (instead of an open space) with traditional touches!
Food is DELICIOUS - let's get that out of the way!

Some observations:
* Salad/sides - tasty, free refills, 5 choices
* Bulgogi and pork dish - lots of veggies used as fillers. My kids are 'carnivores' and as such don't eat any veggies. They see meat and attack! The amount of meat we get in each plate is very less.
* They should have an option without veggies. We ended up buying 4 plates of bulgogi and 2 plates of pork - just for 3 adults and 2 young kids. One of them had miso soup and I had the bibimbap! Price is reasonable but with volume of less meat, it adds up.
* They don't have individual miso soup bowls for kids. It's a large bowl with greens already in it. My kids HATE greens.
* Wish there was a easy way to call the waiters/waitresses - no call button and with only 1 person speaking in English, you are at the mercy of that person crossing you or the other waiters passing the message! This also impacts how quickly they could bring things. For ex. we asked for the lettuce and miso paste at the beginning but got it towards the end!
* Dessert was a nice suprising touch and we all loved it!

Will definitely go back there...now that I know their menu and system better.

I don't think, I can say anything new about this place, that has not been said before! I just wish, I knew before hand how expensive this place was, so, I don't do an 'all inclusive resort' and yet pay for this separately. I'd rather stay in the same place or per night basis!

Having said that, this place is a theme park, zoo, aquarium and a cultural show - all combined into one! So, rightfully, you will need more than a day to cover everything.

Here are some highlights from what we learnt:
* Everything is a 'payable item' that can be added to your entry ticket. Options are very expensive. Pick and choose what you/your group want.
* Follow the colored lines! If in doubt, get to your colored line.
* Very good facilities; very organized and thoughtful. You just have to look. It's their system - go with the flow!
* Reach a little early and get in the river first. Go up river; come down through various enclosures. Any other way consumes time and effort!
* There is a not so well-known, dolphin encounter at 10.30am at a 30% discounted rate. They won't try to sell it.
* Pictures are VERY expensive.
* 1 lunch is paid for in the price of the ticket. Try to go at the shoulder times to avoid lines or crowding. There are I think 5 HUGE restaurants. Hosts are very methodical and organized.
* Do NOT miss the 5pm cultural show in the Mayan village. Viewing could be challenging - because the show happens in the middle and folks are standing in the stairs, walkways etc. But absolutely worth it!
* It's long, but DO NOT miss the evening main show from 6-9pm. You will enjoy every bit of it. It's enticing. My 9 year old and 2 year old sat through the whole show without complaining.

A very tiring day but my kids still talk about it. So, it was worth it!

Great food; good service! Pictured: Roasted veggies for appetizer; Risotto with asparagus and egg - was unique - utterly delicious; and Seafood spaghetti was tasty!!

Staff was a little...snobbish...at the beginning, but then seem to warm up as the meal went on....but not enough for us to order desserts!

The restaurant itself is small and gives a 'cozy' vibe! Friendly and 'thoughtful' (explained below) staff. Wide selection; fresh fish; nominally priced!

We ordered the salmon sushi roll, salmon nigiri, California crazy maki (fried) and the Teriyaki chicken (in picture). Every item came out rather quickly and properly spaced out.

I must admit, the salmon nigiri - it was the most generous piece of salmon ever served! You will not be disappointed! Everything was fresh and delicious. Our order came with miso soup for all of us. The waitress, already put some ice in my 2 year old's soup (exactly how we would do at home!) and it was ready to satisfy her hunger pangs - without a moment's delay! She loved the sweetish teriyaki sauce with chicken.

A sweet surprise - since our order crossed $50, we got free large beer (during weekends)! Loved it. Our loyalty to this restaurant has just been renewed!!
