Mayvn Cafe
2023 Oct 09
The secret cafe hide from tourists in George street, Mayvn cafe locates seamlessly with luxurious Eden Locke aparthotel offer the study/working space with the art touch.

My friends brought laptops and sit and other people come to read or chitchat. Their fresh orange juice is alright .
Their pain au chocolat is not impressive with the bitterness from a burnt.
Still their cake is quite delicious for example, elder flower blubbery. It’s sweet but succulently delicate. The baguettes both meaty and vegan are also good according to my friends so I guess I will come and try next visit to confirm this.

The decoration is very artistic and cozy and the staffs seems friendly and not giving the disapproving gaze when I come to read or do some work.

My friends enjoyed coming to this inspiring cafe when they are tired of the view from the main library.
Pera
2023 Sep 05
Situated very close to elm row, Pera is finally visited.
Decorated with the combination of white and blue colours, Pera give you the Turkish food sensation.
What I tried is the halloumi sucuk (fried halloumi with beef sausage). It is a alright starter.
What I particular like is their kuzu kanurga or lamb ribs. I am cautious with the smell of lamb but this ribs is as they claimed is very tender and succulent. I couldn’t recognize the lamb smell at all which is very impressive for me.
Dipping with yogurt or the salad which is quite similar with Thai spicy salad also adds complex flavors.

The staff is very polite and informative.
The dishes, plates or cup they use also quite creatively unique.

They now accept cash or bank transfer so keep you phone battery alive.

It’s a good Mexican restaurant with nice touch in decorations
Noodles and Dumplings
2023 Jul 18
Noodles and dumplings is friend’s favorite noodle shop which is not far from the university of Edinburgh building. Following its name I tried the most famous slice beef noodle with chili oils and dumpling.

Don’t let the colour trick you, as an Asian guy, it’s not too spicy but again spiciness is subjective capacity. The beef is tender and the noodles are well made.
The trick you can do is to ask for the soup, warming your mouth, which pleasantly accompanies the dish too.
The dumplings are alright as well.
The restaurant is spacious and can be crowded at noon.
There are more dishes to try so you can come and experience it by yourself.
Rock Salt Cafe
2023 Jul 14
After the opening of Tram, now we can commute to Leith more comfortably,
Rock salt proudly provides breakfast menu.
The cafe is spacious with wooden floor mixed with the historical vibe.

Vegan full breakfast maintain the proper breakfast. The vegan sausage is mediocre but ham is literally gorgeous. The other menus are various to choose.

The staff is very attentive and give customers the space.
Whenever using tram you can drop by this cafe.
BABA
2023 Jun 30
Lebanese or Middle East cuisine place at the end of George street, BABA welcomes guests to try its photogenic dishes. There is a starter, mezze dishes but I only tried their grilling dishes
Lamb Adana is like a sausage style with enjoyable spiciness but the scent of lamb is pretty strong for me, the cod & charcoal grilled celeriac is alright but all the dishes can be little mushy. I prefer more complex textures in this dish.

The most recommended dish is a Duke of Berkshire pork neck. The pork is very tender and juicy with pesto-like sauce and the sweetness from pineapple. This is a wow for me.

The decoration is stylish and the staffs are very friendly with service minds.

Recommended to visit if you are strolling around George street or princes street.
