HOLE-IN-THE-WALL HOTSPOT: TERRIFIC TERRIYAKI
Affordable, delicious, and mostly housemade. Be sure to try their Chashu pork, as it’s something special and the favorite item we tried at lunch. The owner is super friendly and wants his patrons to have a great experience eating his tasty food.
Our family of four ordered a bunch of stuff to share during lunch among the many regulars:
- Dumplings: Only item I wouldn’t order again. Nothing special and not housemade.
- Fried Chicken Bowl with Veggies: Great karaage style chicken that is moist, flavorful, and perfectly crispy.
- Chashu Bowl: UH MAY ZING!!! Don’t sleep on the pork.
- Chicken Teriyaki Bowl: Kids loved it!

SO SO SUSHI
This locally owned Japanese eatery has some very hard working and pleasant staff. Their parking lot can be a nightmare, but worth a trip there to get a sushi “fix” when in Tahoe. Be aware they tack on 3.75% to the total if you aren’t paying cash. A “cash discount” might be a better way to market, but that’s their choice to make.
My sushi-addicted daughter requested to dine here so she could have her first ever “all you can eat sushi” experience and she sure made it worth the $39 (49 with tax, cc fee, & tip). My other daughter had the chicken katsu lunch special and husband had the nigiri lunch specials. Value points are strong with the lunch specials.
I ordered the Agedashi tofu, sunomono salad, spicy scallop handroll, and salmon sashimi. The fish I had was only ok. It did not taste fresh from the freezer and sashimi was awkwardly cut in thick slices. I enjoyed the unique presentation with the agedashi tofu and thought it would be a better dish to share than eat yourself. Sunomono was homemade and pretty tasty.
4 stars overall for a locally owned eatery serving up homemade grub in a tourist town.

SLAYS
This was the first time our family has been to Lake Tahoe and this restaurant was the first we dined at during our short fall vacation. We stayed in Incline Village and visited quite a few of the local joints. The service and food here were phenomenal. Should we come again, we will be sure to try their breakfast.
Restaurant has a parking lot and we were seated immediately on a Thursday night without a reservation during shoulder season. If we ever win the lottery and can afford staying here during peak season, we would definitely take time to secure reservation at all the local spots that accept them.
I highly recommend the food. They take time to make almost everything in-house and you can taste the love they put into each dish. My older daughter had the quinoa salad and was over the moon for it. Younger kid loved her burger and fries. Do not skip the fried green beans.
Since we had a grip of appetizers, I ordered the soup for supper and my husband ordered the pork chop to avoid paying their SILLY “split plate” charge. We shared both and were very satisfied with room for their excellent desserts.
Server recommended the doughnuts and they were absolutely worth it. We also had the ganache tart and were Gaga for it.
