Georges Head Lookout
2023 Sep 24
There is no admission fee to visit this location. The harbour walk from Sydney to Balmoral passes this lookout. It’s also possible to drive and park near this location. There’s a bus service that operates along Middle Head Road - the bus stop is about 800 metres from the lookout. At this location, you can read plaques that highlight the location’s history:

“Australia’s Aboriginal tribes attached great importance to some particular headland…to practice their ceremonies, settle their disputes, and arrange matters appertaining to the welfare of the tribe. Georges Head was often the scene of these meetings” - Town and Country Journal, 7 October 1871.

“Port Jackson I believe to be, without exception, the finest and most extensive harbour in the universe, and at the same time the most secure” - John White, surgeon-general, First Fleet, 26 January 1788.

Carcoar Dam
2022 Dec 26
The Carcoar Dam is a family friendly location. It’s a popular place for people to visit to fish and participate in water sports. There are toilets located near the shoreline of the dam. Plenty of parking. Make sure you head around to the southern side of the dam and drive your vehicle across the wall of the dam. We visited at Christmas time and there were about 40 vans parked on the shoreline - it’s a popular camping location.

The 2:40pm weekday train (southbound) stopped at this location for us. Several other people were waiting for the train to stop here. I asked the ticket inspector if the train normally stops here, and he said ‘yes’ but the special weekend excursion train doesn’t stop (southbound) at this train platform unless a passenger wants to disembark. I also saw the 7:15am southbound train stop here. This station is located 50 metres south of the River Kwai Bridge. There is shelter here. Plenty of market stalls are nearby. The train travel from here is very cheap. The ‘ordinary’ train has no air conditioning. The train travels along what is sometimes referred to as ‘Death Railway’ - the Thailand-Burma Railway line was built by prisoners of war and forced Asian labour during World War II.
The prices here are very good. This store opens very early every morning. I’ve always found their service to be fast and efficient. The variety of fast food is excellent. Most of it appears to be made at the store. The cafe sells freshly made sandwiches and rice pudding too.
Excellent staff. Very friendly. Dr Wong is amazing. He gave me practical, real world advice. I highly recommend this medical centre. I phoned to make a booking, and found myself speaking to the doctor within 20 minutes. Very clean and comfortable offices. Handy location. Located opposite NSW Parliament House. Close to all public transport. Paid parking is available in nearby office buildings and at The Domain.
