Food here is somewhat of an odd mixed bag, they do foreign foods like tacos as well as fish and chips pretty decently but somehow end up with cold satay with meat that is not sufficiently grilled or tender and a mediocre sauce. The cocktails are average at best as well. The ambience is admittedly great though, which is probably what you’re really paying (elevated prices) for at this place.
Good place for a quick Thai meal; service is quick, prices are (relatively) cheap and the quality okay, albeit nothing to write home about.
The more causal little brother of the fine dining restaurant Mural, it’s fair to say you would have some expectations as you sit down in the chic modernist interior. And things start off well, the complimentary bread from Julius Bratner and thoughtfully semi melted room temperature butter. But the food afterwards is creative but somewhat misses the spot; ingredient pairings are interesting like fermented leek with Sichuan type peppers with steak that is a tad too chewy. Or things like sunflower ice cream, which whilst creative a flavour, doesn’t really pair all that well with French toast and poached pears. The service also starts out ok but degrades to being downright bad towards the end. Starting out friendly and taking some time to explain the menu but as each dish is served, the accompanying wine comes with the bottle and explanation of tasting notes to just slapping down the wine glass on your table and giving you the name of the wine while looking irritated if you ask questions about it. Oh, and the pacing of the meal is completely off: 20 odd minutes between the starter and main but we waited over 40 minutes to get our dessert. To top it off, the waitress scowls at the end when you leave a less than sufficient tip despite the terrible service. So as much as this place has great potential, it unfortunately doesn’t live up to it.
As the oldest fine dining establishment in Munich, most people would come here with high expectations. The food here is solidly executed French fare that’s good, but somewhat devoid of the flair or creativity that the restaurant used to be known for before they changed head chefs in 2019. The service however, is excellent - knowledgeable and friendly and the ambience iconic with its bombastic decor. You can probably get more bang for buck at other fine dining places these days but it’s still nice to see the original schickeria hold its own in today’s world.
Quality Italian fare served up in a restaurant whose somewhat ornate interior still looks like it was done up in the pre war era. Their signature dish is their sheep’s cheese ravioli, served up with a generous flair of their also eponymous balsamic vinegar (i.e. aceto balsamico for you Italian aficionados).
