I live on the east side of Greenville and visit McPherson Park just about every day. It's the best way to access the downtown area imo. I always find free parking here, even when big downtown events are in full swing. It's about a 10 minute walk from the park to NOMA Square, about 20 minutes to Falls Park.
McPherson Park is a nice destination in itself. The bathroom is clean, the trails (although short) are enjoyable, and there are plenty of amenities, including a playground, picnic shelters, a mini golf course, and a tennis court. The last two are very popular.
The park feels safe at night, and the fireflies are a treat in the summer months.
Those looking for a water spigot will find one around the back of the log cabin. Not sure why there isn't one closer to the bathroom or picnic shelters.
