At 10 kms and 2864ft, Haystack Mountain is a pretty nice hike, which is also part of the Saranac Lake 6er challenge. My wife and I hiked this trail on June 30, 2018 and it took us about 4hrs. We kept a good pace even though the temperature was getting close to 40 celsius.
The first half of the trail is pretty easy and good for a family. The second half is very steep and rocky, but doable. There is lots to see along the way, including streams, a small damn, and the remnants of an old structure.
Note, this shouldn't be confused with the Adirondack 46 High Peak Haystack Mountain.

This is an easy short trail, just 1.3 k.m., 20 minutes you'll be done. It winds through some beautiful forest and is a small sample of what Gatineau Park has to offer.
