Aldgate Square
2023 Apr 20
Aldgate Square provides a pretty patch of green in the middle of the city.

There’s a patch of grass, water fountains and many benches to sit on.

Although the square isn’t all that big, it’s a small break away from its concrete surrounds and makes for a great lunch spot or a peaceful spot to sit.

🐌 Until May 2023, Aldgate Square is also home to a work of art by Jocelyn McGregor called “Earthlings.”

Located between the square and St Botolph's church, the snail sculptures each feature a shell and human limb instead of their usual slimy body.

The snails cause you to slow down as you pass and it’s encouraged to perch beside one so it’s okay to let children explore them. After May 2023, a piece by Emii Alrai will replace the snails.

Nearby, there’s also a variety of coffee shops and Aldgate underground station. 🚆
Bento Bab

Delicious Korean food, with loads of vegetarian options. 🌱

I had a takeaway lunch from BentoBox and will definitely be returning for more. ✅

The staff were very friendly, service was fast (I was with a group of 4 and we waited 🕰️ 9 minutes from placing orders to getting our food) and it was all delicious.

I was really impressed with how many vegetarian options there were - despite being known for their Korean BBQ. From bibimbap to kimbap, ramen, and even a veggie take on Korean fried chicken (hello, aubergine!).

📝 I ordered tofu kimbap (£7.9) and kimchi chips/ fries 🍟 (£5.8) which are loaded chips topped with tangy kimchi and spicy mayo.

The beef bento box 🍱 (£9.9) and pork BBQ kimbap (£7.9) were also highly recommended by friends.

🚆 The restaurant is a short walk from either Aldgate underground station and is known to get busy so, book a table if you’d like to come for Korean BBQ.

♻️ Special mention for the reduced plastic and styrofoam used in the packaging of my takeout order. ✅
Wonder Woman Statue

I stumbled across a statue of Wonder Woman in London and discovered she’s one of several bronze movie character 🎥 statues in Leicester Square.

Throughout the square you can also find characters from Paddington Bear, Mr Bean, Batman, Mary, Poppins, Harry Potter, Bugs Bunny, Charlie Chaplin and more.

Wonder Woman lights up at night, too! 💡

Along this street you’ll also find an entrance to China Town so she may be worth a visit if you’re going there.
