Super friendly and knowledgeable volunteers showing us around and sharing their knowledge and interest. Audio tour for the first floor, ground floor, basement and garden. Beautifully restored but not to much furniture in it. Most memorable was the people and audio tour.
Imposing citadel overseeing Belfort. Recommend to take the train to get to the top and walk down. This way you can see the defenses, gates, tunnels and bridges on your way down and avoid the climb in the heat (went here late July). In very nice shape though most of the buildings aren’t open for the public. Given the extensive structure, it most be substantial. Would be nice to have an exhibition more clearly describing daily life in the citadel for conscripts, NCOs and officers.
Also it’s role during German occupation would have been interesting. Basically no original equipment left, no cannons etc. The museum is OK but small, one hour affair. Well setup and describes the relevant time periods, though very limited.
