We met up with my niece and her husband for a traditional Cocido Madrileno meal. Originally, we had reservations elsewhere, but my niece suggested this place. It is a small place, tucked away in Arguelles, in operation since 1935.
We started out with caracoles (snails) and mollejas (sweetbreads). On the the Cocido (deconstructed stew) served in vuelcos (stages) of broth with fideo, the the main parts of carrot, cabbage, potato, morcillo, chorizo, chicken, and chickpeas. While it sounds very simple, it is a dish that, once assembled, cooks 4 hours in a clay pot. Each part soaks up that wonderful broth that it makes.
You much order this 2 days in advance , but it is well worth it. Amazing little place! We will be back on our next visit!
