I came to check out this new town park, and I will say I am glad CP citizens voted to create this park at this location instead of letting Shop Rite build a store here. Seeing how Shop Rite is now closing all of its stores in the Capital District north of Hudson, that decision looks to have been even better, since they would almost certainly be closing the one here too. Then we would be stuck with a big empty building and parking lot here, instead of a scenic pleasant park.

It is still relatively new and there could be improvements. The accompanying nature center is under construction, and the paths to and from the parking lots could use a little landscaping, maybe some flowerbeds. Some historical monuments or outdoor sculptures would also be nice, provided they are not of the humongous abstract industrial metal type that consume the entire surrounding landscape with bleakness and desolation (like in Ossining, NY). A pavilion or rotunda might also be a good enhancement.

It will be interesting to see what more the town might do with this park, but it is definitely a quality-of-life improvement for the townspeople.
Grave of Mel Blanc

It says "That's All Folks!" Of course.
If you are driving onto the GW Bridge from the West Side Highway, be very careful going around the loop taking you up to the bridge. Right beside the highway is an hellacious abomination: A Peter Lundberg sculpture!

Keep your eyes fixed firmly on the road and definitely don't look to the right, you should be OK. However if you live in this neighborhood and like to visit this park, please tell the appropriate city officials you want this piece removed.

Art in public places is great, if it can truly be called "art." This thing however is an hellacious abomination. Not to mention a traffic hazard. How many people have caused accidents by swerving when they thought "a monster was jumping out at them from the side of the road"? I swerved within my lane when I drove past it, but some may not be able to avoid crossing into the other lane.
Ditmas Management

Is Ditmas Mgt. aware that the tenant in 4L of The Windsor had a serious hoarding problem at one time, and may still have it? If left unattended it could pose a problem for tenants other than himself, and likewise for the management.
In what seems like a cruel practical joke, the waterfronts at both ends of the Ossining-Haverstraw Ferry have been scourged by P_e_t_e_r Lu_nd_be_rg sculptures!

See my review of Henry Gourdine Park for more info about the "Eye of Sauron" in Ossining. Here on this side of the river there is also a "sore on eye" PL sculpture. It is tragic that people who wish to enjoy the beauty of the riverfront must be confronted by this blight and horror.

The Ossining-Haverstraw Ferry is a great upstate day trip for people in the city. They can take the train from Grand Central to Ossining and the ferry terminal is just a few minute walk. They can ride the ferry to Haverstraw and then come back. It is a pleasant and most scenic outing, but with these insidious behemoths blighting the landscape on both sides, the experience is horrendously spoiled.

I would recommend a day trip to Storm King Art Center instead. You can't entirely rely on public transportation to get there and back, but they have had the good sense and judgment not to have had any P. L. sculptures on display there for 12 years now. It definitely makes for a much more enjoyable outing!
