I don't recommend going to this store due to the combination of exorbitant prices, insufficient staff at the registers, and the occasional dangerous customer. Prices on many items are ridiculously high, such as $8.50 for a loaf of brioche bread and $7 for a small container of pomegranate seeds - just a couple of examples. Today, when I got in the full service checkout line, they had only two registers open for a line of 15 customers. While in line, I observed a security guard smack a box of food out of a guy's hand who was in line at the customer service desk/registers. The food went flying everywhere - on the floor, on the counter, on business cards. The man in line proceeded to shout at the security guard who stepped towards the front of the store. He got louder and was eventually escorted out. I then spoke with the manager to point out both issues - insufficient staff and the behavior of the security guard. He advised that the staffing issue was due to breaks and callouts. He also stated that the man whose food got smacked was a thief who regularly tries to steal from the store. He said that he's called the police in the past on the man, but the police take 45 minutes to show up and don't do anything. And that "it's Union Square", meaning customers should expect to witness that type of thing. I will do my best to avoid shopping here - any Trader Joe's has better prices and I've never witnessed a serious conflict.
Four stars sounds about right. We went here for the all you can eat sushi. Note they are cash only (at least Friday and Saturday evenings, I think - the sign was a little confusing) and they add 18% gratuity to the bill. We were seated fairly quickly and the manager/owner was accommodating enough to seat us in a slightly less crowded area. We started ordering using their iPad and had some food in less than 10 minutes. The environment was definitely loud. We had a table of 4...boisterous young men next to us who were drinking beer. Thankfully they left half way through the meal. The sushi itself was...okay. I've had better. The better tasting dishes were the ones that were limited in quantity, unfortunately. The mocha flavored cake was mediocre and the fried potato/corn patty was super dull/lacking in taste. The cheesecake (limited dessert) was pretty good. So not the best sushi I've had, the best tasting items were on the limited menu, it was cash only, but service was fast.
