The White Horse was a pleasant surprise. we found it on a Google Maps search because we were hungry.
The view of the river is magnificent and relaxing.
The food was extremely good “home cooking”.
i love chicken pot pies and their does not disappoint. it was huge and delicious. My son had the mac and cheese which he devoured. we also shared the artichoke dip with chips. that was also delicious.
we look forward to visiting The White Horse again 👍
i forgot to take a picture of the grilled brownie but you HAVE to try it !!! 👍😀
2024-10-13 we came back 1 year later and the food is still fantastic.

the atmosphere
I love the ambience of this restaurant. it was a cozy looking restaurant. it has a fireplace which would probably be very welcomed in the wintertime.ambience was 5 out of 5.
the service:
we placed our order online and it said it would be ready by 8pm. i arrived at 8:10 and the food was not ready. i was okay with this because it meant that our food would be warm (i am optimistic :). the host at the front desk was very apologetic and even offered to get me a free drink at the bar (i am not a big drinker so i passed on that but it was appreciated). i give her a 5 for customer service.
The food:
I ordered the scallops. there was something a bit off on the taste. also the scallops were mushy. I decided it was beat NOT to finish them. i dont want to risk getting a stomach ache on seafood since i am traveling. 1 or 2 out of 5
the lobster roll seemed like the lobster was mixed in with canned tuna or something. i dont think it was all lobster. it was okay (3 out of 5)
the crab stuffed artichoke was too cheesy tasting. it would have been better without all the cheese. it completely masks the flavors of the crab and artichoke. i give this a 2 out of 5
shrimp cobb definitely has frozen shrimp which i thought was okay. of all the dishes we tried tonight this was one of the better ones. it is a bit spicy 🌶️ 3 out of 5
the mac and cheese had high expectations from my son. he loves mac and cheese. his response was “not-bad” he gave it a 4 out of 5. so this probably turned out to be the best dish we ate tonight.
it is too bad to; this restaurant seems like it has so much potential being a great restaurant on the waterfront.
would i eat here again ? Hum…maybe go for a nice drink while watching the view.

over-all the restaurant had a beautiful interior. The croissants were much smaller than we expected. The coat check was appreciated given we wore several layers for the cold weather, the waiters were stiff and not very friendly (not sure if this is part of their training or not).
We had 2 continental breakfasts, Avocado toast, and an Eggs Benedict. for the amount of food i was a disappointed. again it is a great place to take photos. For what they charge you, you would expect AMAZING but definitely did not live up to that. it was a good experience to eat there once but I have had better croissants at other restaurants.
There were 3 Instagram girls in the restaurant literally changing clothes just to take photos with their croissants. don’t be deceived by all the hype.
Would we go there again for breakfast ? I asked my wife and she NO but it was a beautiful place to take photos.

I am not sure what kind of restaurant this is. they have sushi/rolls, they had some Thai food, some Indian curry, Singaporean food, and Chinese food. it was just a mix of what seemed to be anything Asian.
We are traveling and stuck with something safe (bowl of Udon noodles, chicken teriyaki, and sushi rolls)
The Udon noodles wasn’t bad and normally my son would devour a bowl. he didn’t really want to finish it. it was probably the best part of our meal.
Normally i would love the chicken teriyaki but they make it with sliced boiled white meat and it was very dry. Traditionally teriyaki chicken with is served on a bowl of rice but this was served like a Chinese dish with boiled broccoli 🥦 around the dish. it didnt really have the Japanese style of grilled chicken served on top of rice. it didn’t even taste like tradition teriyaki chicken. it was more like Chinese style steamed chicken.
The sushi rolls were probably the closest representation of Japanese style food. it tasted like a sushi roll should taste but it was swimming in teriyaki sauce; and I do mean swimming. it should be a hint of teriyaki sauce squirted on with a squeeze bottle not poured on with spoonfuls of sauce. it was drowning in the sauce sauce; to the point where we were wiping the sauce off on the plate it was served on.
it was disappointing because i really had my heart set on a nice Japanese meal. Japanese style food should be delicate; less is more (especially when applying sauce)
Kogetsu boiler house needs to focus on one style of Asian food and not cater to “all asian” foods because it falls short to any authentic asian style food. if you want to focus in Japanese food then make it look and taste like Japanese food (don’t confuse it by serving it with Chinese boiled broccoli around it). if you want to make Chinese food then make Chinese food.
At the end of the day, we felt like we were eating for sustenance and not really eating for the dining experience.
Would i go back again? No. Once was enough. I live in Asia and get great Asian food all the time. this was well…an interesting experience. I have never really been to a one-stop asian restaurant inter-mixing the the cuisines of Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Indian, Singaporean and whatever else; it was a disaster as all those styles are so different.
