Dropped in just for a pint. Unfortunately they only had two beers on draft but it's primarily a restaurant so targeting diners rather than drinkers. Saying that I noticed that they do have a huge selection of wines. They must be doing something right though as the place was full and they were very busy on a weekday. There's a very nice view through the windows into the Albert dock and you can't beat a nice meal in a nice place with a nice view. Didn't try the food so will have to come back and try it out.
This is the second castle I've visited today. Strikes me as a really odd place to build a Norman castle as it's on a hill in the middle of nowhere, I think it's more of a 13th century manor or hunting lodge. It's surrounded by beautiful countryside, a nice place to sit and admire the view. All the walls are still up so it's lasted quite well. It's free to get in so can't complain. The car park is very small so I'd come early as there's nowhere else to park.
If you are going to go walking around Thornton Hough this pub is a great place to start as it's in the centre of the village just opposite the church. It's handy to get to as the 487 bus from Liverpool stops just outside. It's got a lounge and dining area and in the Summer it's nice to sit in the beer garden. It has a small car park but there's normally parking spaces over the road. Haven't eaten in a while so can't comment on food, but they do usually have a good range of Real ales and beers.
If you're walking from Eastham Ferry to Eastham village this is the first pub you'll bump into. It has a big fireplace with open fire makes it a nice cosy pub on a winters day.
Called in for a pint today and it's a quite nice place to watch the world go by. It's very bright inside because of the very large windows and there is a great view across the river of sunny Liverpool. Instant service as it wasn't too full and a reasonable range of beers and ales. I'd imagine if the ferry was working it would probably be a lot busier.
