A big thanks to Karim in the cafe at Pool in the Park - great value non-greasy meals in there - he was an absolute gentleman and my children, hungry after their swim, were very happy. First class customer service!
We really enjoyed our visit here, but in terms of looking for a serious museum, if you're hoping for the Portuguese version of the Greenwich Maritime Museum or the Jorvik Viking Centre, you should exponentially lower your expectations. Many of the exhibits seem a bit threadbare and dated and much of the text and commentary provided seems verbose and pedantic, like it's been cut and pasted unedited from somewhere without enough thought to tailor things concisely for the visitor.
Yet World of Discoveries works best when you think of it as akin to the sort of attraction you might find in a theme park. As long as its not too busy, families will really enjoy this - I like the way you can try items of armour on for size, how happy and friendly the staff seem and then, of course, you have the main draw of the boat ride touring around Portugal's colonial history. It is a little bit pricey if you're a big family, but we had a huge amount of fun and would still recommend it.
