Mahal has a great history before we judge by its food and service at the first place. This used to be named as ' presidency boarding house ' where great writers such as jibanananda, saradindu used to stay and eat. Later it named as Mahal bhaater hotel. There building and rooms remained as it is. One can feel the nostalgia while spending hours in there. Food wise it's good, service is prompt. Price is reasonable. Expect the old style eating on kalapata (banana leaf) and old style Bengali menu items such as maach bhaat, mangsho bhaat and so on. But crowded during busy hours as it's expected. One must not look for great ambience while visiting such old style eateries. Having the expectation set, this place is a must visit to feel Bengali history.

Such a mesmerizing building holding the old calcutta nostalgia! This building has nothing to do with Rabindranath Tagore or Tagore family though! Everything in jorasanko is not always about Tagore family, Bengalis must be certain. May such establishments stay strong for many more centuries!
