Our family had the best time with the most knowledgeable guide! It was a rainy day in early March, so we didn't have high expectations. We were pleasantly surprised when our guide pointed out multiple alligators, raccoons, egrets, herons, and snakes. We also learned about the way of life on the bayou and passed through a community where houses were only accessible by boat.

Things to know ahead of time:
1. Call to make reservations.
2. Pay cash. No cards accepted.
3. All boats are covered. The way the seats are designed, there's no bad view.
4. I was on the very front of the boat and had a hard time hearing the guide. I wish they wore microphones. Sit closer to guide if you want to hear.
5. They go fast on the open river! It was SO windy, and we were all surprisingly cold. Wear a hat and jacket, and tie your hair back.
6. If you're taking I-10 westbound (from MS), you can go to the Slidell Visitor's Center and tell the staff you have a swamp tour scheduled. They'll open the back gate for you, which gives direct access to the location. It saved us a good 15 minutes off the drive.
Our kids (ages 9-12) loved spending the morning at this science museum. All exhibits were interactive, fun, and informative. The museum was clean and staff were friendly. Our kids especially liked the numerous climbing structures. I would find most exhibits overwhelming and difficult to monitor kids under 5. This museum was free with ASTC reciprocity if you have membership to another science museum.
We really enjoyed our visit!
Things to know:
-Strollers and wheelchairs are very challenging on the uneven cobblestone.
-The $20 ticket to see "everything" includes entrance to 5 buildings. Most of the buildings were still closed. Many are private residences.
-Plan to spend extra money at the bakery. My favorite are the Moravian cookies.
-It is free to walk around the town and admire the architecture. The gift shop, bakery, sewing shop, and Visitor's Center are also free to enter.
-The historical interpreters were fully immersed in Old Salem lifestyle. There were many hands on opportunities for kids and the staff were extremely patient and encouraging.
Lineberger Park

This park has beautiful green space with trails and ample covered picnic tables. The playground is adequate with climbing structures and swings (no slides). There is also a small splashpad, as well as a little train to ride. Overall, great park with tons of space for running and dog walking.
This is a beautifully designed new park with unique play structures. There are two small parking lots, multiple tennis courts, a basketball court, walking trails, and bathrooms. The metal slides were too hot in the 90°+ heat, but the splashpad was refreshing. There are plenty of picnic tables and benches in shaded areas.
