If ever in the Carcassonne area don't miss the bike path that runs parallel to the Canal du Midi. We did Carcassonne to Trebes (round trip) and the path is safe as it never merges with the cars. The surface is sometimes inconsistent (from pave to grail, from wide to narrow), but for the most part of the trail it is very easy, even for kids. Have kids see the locks system raising the boats that sail the canal and they won't want to leave.
