Effervescence

Go for the atmosphere. I loved their secluded courtyard with all their plants and greenery around their gorgeous fountain. It was a wonderful escape for the chaos of N Rampart, especially since it took me almost an hour to find off-street parking. The night jasmine was a wonderful unexpected gift and was a highlight of the experience. I also enjoyed the glass surrounding the kitchen so you are able to check them making your dishes.

However, the food was weakest part of the champagne bar. I knew it would be small bites. But I honestly wasn't expecting to spend over $60 on food alone and still leave hungry. Everything I tried was one-toned (very salty). Their deviled eggs were the worst offender. The 3 eggs did not adequately counteract the saltiness of the caviar at all. Even getting the fish eggs on the side didn't help the salt content of this dish.

The dijon aioli was the same thing. There was no dijon flavor. It just tasted like oily creamy salt. Honestly, everything tasted like it came from Sysco, despite their description on the menu. I also wasn't a fan of qr code only menus. What happens if you don't have a smart phone or if it's dead/dying? You just don't eat?

Unfortunately, service wasn't much better. I didn't get silverware, and there were no refills on the water, despite the salt content. I had to ask several times for ketchup, as well as the bill.

FYI: Bathroom was clean, and hostess was outstanding. I also saw several tables with kids.
LUCA Eats

Just ordered since COVID-19 hit the world. Before Luca Eats was great and had wonderful service. Today, it was mediocre at best. Portions are half what they used to be though they increased the price. They don't even bother filling up their tiny takeout containers.

You also have to order online, and they won't service you if you show up there. There are no paper menus, and they push everything to their website. So if you don't have a data plan, you're screwed. Like another reviewer said, they have become the face of gentrification.

Oh, and don't bother asking for anything. Everything costs extra now. Asked for another dressing for my salad. $1.25 for a small ramekin.

Coffee was still excellent. Though it was $7.
