The smell of burning oil from the beach this morning was sort of nauseating. There is an overcast sky but beautiful nonetheless. The air is cool with a slight breeze from the north. I hear a roar over the sound of waves and white water. Seems like a large ship’s diesel engine, but there are no ships nor even industry close by.
A pelican is flying the wave line and skimming the tip of its wing into the surf. A fluffy seagull is watching me. It found a shelled creature, tried to swallow it whole and threw up. There is a piper that landed. Nearly as large as the gull. There is competition for food here.

Paved nature Island Pioneer Trail. Plenty of parking. Vaulted toilets. One picnic table and shelter.
One of the best
The Cottonwood Trail is one of the best in South Carolina. It is somewhat of a spillway for stormwater and that causes some issues of pollution. The wetlands are a real up-and-coming tourist attraction. The biodiversity needs to thrive and many of the fallen trees need to be cleaned up
