Jama Masjid
2024 Mar 22
The Jama Mosque, also known as the Friday Mosque or Jumah Mosque, is located in the Bhadra area of Ahmedabad City. Built during the reign of Ahmad Shah I, the mosque showcases a fascinating architectural fusion with Hindu and Jain religions. This is particularly evident in the lotus-like carvings decorating some of its domes, reminiscent of those found on many Jain temples.

One of the largest mosques in India, the Jama Mosque boasts a prayer hall supported by 260 columns and crowned with 15 domes. Walking through the hall creates a mesmerizing play of light and shadow. Notably, the mosque features five mihrabs (prayer niches) corresponding to the five square bays within the main prayer hall.
