Pie Shop

We’ve probably eaten 50 of Pie Shop’s tasty, savory and wholesome ratatouille pies over the past ten years. Consistently delicious pies, and premium quality ingredients.
This place is a real gem, and there is nothing like it. Pie shop has a wide variety of delicious flavors to suit every taste.

Impressively delicious catfish sandwich. Nice outdoor seating. Smooth service. Will go back!
Met Cafe the Venue

Delicious! The lasagna and beef stew were standouts. Orange chicken is solid too. My co-worker says his hot reuben was the best he’d had in years. Wide variety of quality hot and salad bar options, plus custom bowls and sandwiches. Sushi looks like it’s coming soon. Friendly service.
Huge, light-filled, window-surrounded interior, and plenty of covered outdoor seating. Will definitely return to Met Cafe the Venue regularly now that it’s freshly open in an impressive new location (reopened summer 2022.)
Nice staff, smooth and surprisingly brisk 30-minute passage between old town Alexandria and The Wharf (or National Harbor, perhaps quicker), and good seating on open-air sunny roof deck, shaded outdoor stern deck, or climate controlled interior. My particular route had no narration, which was good, since I live in DC.

A bit pricey (~$23 per adult) but fun and convenient. Better for recreational users than daily commuters. In Alexandria, an information desk sells tickets.

Room for up to six bikes aboard! Those spaces at the stern are first-come first served. There were two bikes aboard, plus my compact two-child family e-bike on a busy June Saturday afternoon. Looking forward to riding again!
Under the bridge, easily accessed from this lot, is WABA’s terrific “learn to ride a bike” course and practice area.

Also the only drinking fountain that seems to be operating along the whole Mount Vernon Trail during the COVID-19 pandemic. That valuable public service amenity is truly a life-saver for thirsty trail users.
