Ms. Kent recently appraised my limited-edition silkscreen of a known contemporary artist, and I’m so glad I consulted her. In addition to being a pleasure to work with, she brought to bear her breadth and depth of knowledge of American art, the American art market’s twists and turns, and, in this case, the art scene in Washington, D.C. Her lively intelligence obviously prompts her to keep up with developments in the field. I was especially pleased that she updated me after the artist’s work experienced a renaissance in value, due in part to the publication of a scholarly book. Both the retail and auction value had gone up in the past year.
Ms. Kent takes a scholarly approach herself, and Her final report detailing her research, the many factors she considered (including sales of comparable prints and mixed media), and the style and condition of the work demonstrated her due diligence and was educational for me. In addition, her fee was fair and in keeping with going rates. Needless to say, I’ve come to trust Ms. Kent’s advice completely.
