Harlow Navy Yard

Writing a second review because I genuinely do not believe it is safe for ANYONE to reside in Harlow.

I lived in Harlow for about six months before breaking my lease (see previous review). During my time there, I experienced:
- A shooting directly outside the building.
- The front door of the building being shattered by a resident throwing rocks at it.
- A second shooting outside the property, where an individual then entered the building and spread blood through the lobby.
- An intentional fire set INSIDE of the building, followed by a brief shooting exchange between the resident and police.
- Violent neighbors who continuously confronted us in the hallway

You would think that after all of these issues, the building would make some effort to improve security. However, they failed to ever fix their “security” phone number, and never established an on site security guard as we were promised. Additionally, the company made several claims that they could not address the safety issues because they were “community wide” - despite them being directly linked to residents and occurring on property.

Myself and my roommates got into several arguments with Shaniqua, the property manager, who verbatim told us that they could not guarantee our safety in the building (see below). We were eventually released from our release because of the ongoing violence with our neighbors.

During Easter weekend, a homicide took place INSIDE of the building, on the 10th floor, directly next to the gym, clubhouse, and roof access. Police were unable to enter the building for some time because the building security line did NOT work (an ongoing issue we had with them while we were residents). The police used resident fob’s to enter the building. Harlow did not respond to the incident until about 9 hours later, and in their email to residents, referred to the incident as a “domestic issue” and made no mention of a shooting or homicide.

Do. Not. Move. Here. This building does not care about its reputation for violence, and will do everything they can to downplay the safety risks occurring on the property. And if you are a current resident, do everything you can to get out. We were able to end our lease without paying an additional months rent because of the violence in the building. Keep pushing!
