I’m missing the Brooklyn Museum right now. The Brooklyn Museum is easily one of my favorite places to go in New York City on any day, let alone when they’re having a major installation. The exhibits, the events (1st Saturdays!) the culture, and even the space enrich my soul.
Also expertly curated is the Brooklyn Museum Shop. Their selection of survey books (I picked up a book of Basquiat’s art when I was last there), gifts, and keepsakes reflect the best of what the museum has had to offer over time. Whoever is managing it thoughtfully caters to the connoisseurs, the families with children, the educators, the playful sort, the locals as well as tourists, the hip and the neophyte. And that inclusive, you’re-welcome-we-got-you flavor, that right there, is the spirit of Brooklyn.
The staff all around is warm, helpful, and knowledgeable. The shop is merchandised with an eye toward attractive detail and ease for the customer, even when they moved it to the front of the pavilion and lobby, which is a great spot for it. The Brooklyn Museum is just dope.
