WHOA ... WATCH OUT! Can the USPS ACTUALLY be making marked improvements in their service?

After having two (later deemed three) packages disappear from my mailbox recently, I filled out a police report, filed reports with [the] USPS and with the sellers, and finally, contacted the US Postal Inspector's Office.

Filing with my local sheriff's office and my local USPS did not (as was expected) garner much more than report numbers, but the US Postal Inspector's Office was a horse of a different color. I could not find a review page for them as they seem to be quite secretive about a physical address and I wasn't in the mood to really look, so I am leaving my review here in the hopes that it may help someone who is having problems with undelivered mail, or more accurately, packages.

One of the things the lady who I spoke to, and I, discussed, was the use of the "Informed Delivery" service which the USPS now offers. With an active USPS account, when you enroll in Informed Delivery, you can opt to receive updates on all your packages via email or SMS messages on your phone. After hanging up with the representative, I signed up for it and, without exaggeration, had a notification within seconds about another package that was en-route that day. You can tweak it, as I did, to only be notified of packages placed in your mailbox, or for however number or choice of alerts you'd like. So far, I love it and I really like that USPS is implementing tools such as these to help their customers.

… Now, if they could only answer their phones … ;)
