one of my favorite meals i’ve had on the eastside. i can’t believe there’s such a good japanese restaurant close to me.
pumpkin fried rice was a large portion and came piping hot. incredibly tasty.
the pork belly was also delicious, marinated well and tender
cuttlefish was interesting and also marinated in a nice sauce
the eggplant we expected more of, not going to lie
ended with complimentary fruit!

genuinely cannot believe that all this food was $17. the fried rice is not overly saucy like the americanized fried rice. it is fresh and subtle. the dumplings were tender and had large fillings. the eggplant was quite salty but still delicious and the chicken feet were scrumptious.
generous portions at a no-frills restaurant. super speedy service.
melt-in-your mouth kind of chicken. i got the samgyetang with abalone and was disappointed it came with just one abalone but there was so much chicken so i honestly can't complain too much. also the kimchi was so delicious and fresh.
can get somewhat busy during lunchtime but there's plenty of seating.

specifically a review for kiyomi sushi:

what a delight to find somewhat affordable omakase in DC! this is a weekday lunch pop up by chef uchi (formerly at sushi nakazawa). a permanent store location will open later in this food hall.

7 pieces of nigiri, miso soup, and 1 handroll. fish imported from japan and then shipped to new york before arriving here, so it’s not as fresh as manhattan, but the freshest you can get in DC at this price point of <$100. Total was $55 per person after tax. There were just 8 seats per session, 30 minute sessions, so there is a wait if you don’t arrive early.
While there weren’t any extremely unique fish (such as uni, eel, or scallop), the selection that was here was still a delicious dance in my mouth. My favorite was the ocean trout.
The setting is humble and no frills. So delightful to get to converse with the chef as he handcrafted the nigiri!

service was a bit slow. it took a while for the servers to finally take our orders and to prepare the food. that being said, the food itself was beautifully presented and flavored. the salmon tartine was quite filling. loved the puff pastry on top of the escargot.
