Amazing place. Started at 08, not that many people at the entrance. Sometimes it felt like I had the entire park for myself. Could walk for long periods of time and not see anyone else.
Did go without a guide, still managed to see quite a few cool animals and birds. Probably better to have a guide if your focus is on birds etc. I just wanted to enjoy the rainforest.
Hiked almost all of the routes (skipped waterfall). Spent roughly 4 hours. I highly recommend walking the Sendero Roble route. Felt like I was in a Miyazaki movie 💯
I did not buy a ticket in advance. Even with a short line outside it took some time to get in. A reservation will let you pass that line.
