To me, this station was the key to sight-seeing in Vienna. This station served us not only as a junction of metro lines and trams but also as a meeting point. Next to the University and looking to VotivK, it hosts couple of buffets, cigarette-machines, stores esp. for take away food and drink, and so on. From this station, old town is in walking distance: Either to the directions of Rathaus, to Börse or to Palais Kinsky. In good weather, Sigmund-Freud-Park hosts those who enjoy sun at its most. We really enjoyed our time waiting for any public transport around.
In and just after Easter, and if possible you would and should come see the spectacular Easter market around Town square. Most of the goods would be from Tyrol and are of good quality. In the photo, you see the remaining Easter eggs just after Easter :)
A nice spot for fast food and shopping with reasonable prices for Vienna
