Rhoose Point

A beautiful hidden gem only a short drive away from the capital city. While most people visit for the pebble beach and sea there are also plenty of other attractions here including wildlife ponds with reed beds, and various areas of grassland and shrubs in an old quarry which has since been reclaimed by nature (and the large housing estate nearby).

We parked in the housing estate and followed on of the paths down the pebble beach. The first stretch of the path was made of tarmac but further on you step onto a gravel path which was uneven in places. Access to the beach could be a little tricky due to the pebbles and some large rocks but it's well worth visiting if you can traverse them.

Near the entrance to the beach stands a stone circle with a large monolith in the centre to mark the most southern point of mainland Wales.

The area was quite popular with young families and dog walkers with most dogs running off their leads.
A very busy retail park. The retail park is home to Home Bargains, B&M (including Garden Centre), Matalan, Greggs and Magnet Kitchens.

There was a very nice M&S Foodhall here as well but this sadly closed earlier this year.

Getting out of the car park can take a little while, even at quieter times.
A great little car park offering free parking and access to the pebble beach and Wales Coast Path.

The car park can get quite busy on warm sunny days in the summer but is usually fairly quiet at other times of year.
Talbot Road Car Park

A very convenient car park for the shops in Talbot Green. This car park is run by the council and offers free parking. It also doesn't have any time restrictions (unlike the retail park car park).

The car park is much smaller than the retail park car park and can get very busy at times so you're not always guaranteed a space here. There are also a few disabled spaces here.
A large war memorial given a prominent position near the Oakdale Workmen's Institute. The memorial was originally from Newbridge near Caerphilly.

The war memorial is a focal point for the museum's celebration of Remembrance Day.
