Here's the thing. If you want that classic view of the falls from the viewpoints you'll have to cross into Canada. The USA side doesn't have the POV you were thinking.
The way to get the views from US side would be to go on maid of the mist or the observation deck (sort of)
Otherwise, Lots of paths to stroll around. Come in late October for the wonderful fall colors, though a lot of the shops and such were closed for the season.
Parking is $10. Senior discount available or of you have a state pass it'll work here.

Walk around and take in the nice foliage and ruins of the agora. If you get the combo ticket it let's you into this site. Can see the acropolis nicely from here.
