It’s wonderful that there is a FREE entry for Illinois residents, certain days of the week. You do have to book your tickets on their website before arriving.
Unfortunately the parking on the FREE day was ridiculously expensive, 55dlls. The public parking 🅿️ via pay booths were closed off so you didn’t have any option but to pay the expensive parking fee.
We ended up parking our car in the city and walking back to Adler Planetarium. So my advice to you if you really want to save money, take public transportation.
I highly recommend the walk to get there. It has beautiful views of the city as well as the lake. Plenty of grass and trees to sit and relax and enjoy the water, or there are sitting areas as well.
The Planetarium itself was amazing!. I loved the architecture of the building. The top floor has a glass sealing, showing a wonderful view of the blue sky and the lake.
A lot of fun interactive activities to do with your friends or family as well as for kids.
Very interesting displays and over all a fun experience.
The place was very clean and staff were very friendly and helpful.
The view from the top steps of the Planetarium is beautiful, a full background of the city. Definitely a great spot to watch fireworks.

I highly recommend going at night to see the light & music show plus all the little carts that are lit up with fun colors, driving around the fountain.
With the city lights in the background, over all it’s a great place to walk around or just sit and watch.

Bathrooms available too.
