I visited the school today hoping to tour the school, to see facilities, learning environment, to meet a few teachers and students and see boarding facilities. As a parent and a teacher with 25yrs experience these are all key factors when choosing a school, day or boarding school, private or government.
Unfortunately, I was met with hostility and suspicion, several gentlemen (who did not introduce them selves) and several ladies ( who also did not introduce themselves) told me I could not tour the school, see any classes in progress or see any performance data other than be told “the school does very well”. “Very well” is a spurious statement unless accompanied with baseline data, target setting procedures and intervention protocols. I later found out from another visitor the people talking to me were in fact the Deputy Principal and several senior teachers. I have worked on several continents and never have I seen such unprofessional and discourteous behaviour from public or private school employees.
This is a disgrace, do they believe I would hand over any child of mine or in my care and “trust” that they will care for all their educational, spiritual and emotional needs without being shown the learning environments or meeting the boarding house supervisors.
Then to be told by the Deputy Principal that I should look at private schools was the clincher.
Unbelievable unprofessionalism!!!!!
I hope the PTA or governing body will address these inadequacies soon.
Needless to say I will be looking for another establishment.
