The well-preserved and restored castle provides a fascinating glimpse into the life of the 16th-17th century nobility.
Staff are dressed up in historical clothing which further adds up to the immersion.
There’s plenty of activities for children, like dressing up, crafts, jousting or participating in a knights fight. Almost makes you wish you were young again so you could participate.
A visit will take about 2 hours, but with children you can easily double that.
When we visited, there was a temporary exhibition on witch trials in the 17th. They were able to create a well-fitted gloomy atmosphere. Walking through the darkened rooms you could feel the desperation of the women who were falsely accused of witchcraft and trialed for it.

A fascinating castle ruin worth a visit when you’re in the neighbourhood. The forest is rapidly reclaiming its territory and the plants and trees growing on and between the castle walls give it an eerie feel. A visit at dusk on Halloween’s eve seemed appropriate
It’s a bit hard to summarise this museum’s eclectic collection. My best effort: A great collection of historic transport machines. A combination of cars, trams, trains, boats, bikes and metro
On top an old English city street is rebuild.
A must visit for the younger engineers thanks to its interactivity as well as their parents who are interested in technology

If you truly want to understand the rich history of Trier and the surrounding regions, this museum is a must-visit.
The collection is big and diverse and the different objects and artefacts are beautifully displayed with detailed descriptions. There is also an audio guide, included in the ticket price.
When visiting Trier I would highly recommend first visiting the museum and afterwards exploring the different Roman historical sites throughout the city.
They offer a great value combi ticket that allows entry to the major historical landmarks

Nice boomerang coaster, fun for even the youngest. Rarely a long queue
