Disappointed and confused. How did this restaurant earn a star?? Service was abrupt. Crumbs left on the table. Chef patron was walking around face consumed by what can only be described as anxious rage. He managed to crack a smile for diners he clearly knew while the rest of us were ignored. I chose the traditional wine pairing and given it was the “cheaper” option it was deemed unworthy of the sommelier’s attention. And I would not call it a pairing at all. None of the wines accentuated what was on the plate.

To the food….all supposed technique over taste. No personality whatsoever. In a place like Mallorca you have to allow the ingredients to sing rather than muzzle the flavour with pointless molecular techniques that just don’t belong on the plate. I looked around at my fellow diners and no one was smiling. Dead giveaway for me. High end fine dining, if done well, makes you happy and you smile. There was no joy here sadly.

We’re serial attenders to this Soho institution. The ambiance is understated chic. The service is welcoming and attentive. A big thank you to Roshan in that respect. Top man. None of the food is the best I’ve ever had but it’s delicious all the same. The standard is high and more importantly it’s consistent every time. What draws us back is the whole package. Relaxed understated Chinese fine dining.

Genuinely torn about how to rate this restaurant. Some of the dishes were absolutely delicious but the portions were so small as to come across as being mean. Touted as a sharing plates establishment, the quantity meant a group of 3 basically had a single mouthful of each plate. I guess that would be ok had the price point been reasonable but it was not. Business rates being Soho high really does not justify a bill of £260 for 5 dishes and 2 bottles of mediocre wine.

Front of house were on the whole great but our direct server just had an odd almost irritable attitude as to make the dining experience a little tainted. Way too many greater more reasonably priced alternatives in Soho I’m afraid to make me want to come back here.
