The food is consistently very good. My favorite appetizers are the stuffed mushrooms and calamari. The service is excellent. Parking is a bit challenging for guests as you have to go to the main desk and get a ticket first. If you are staying at the hotel, it’s included.
The hotel rooms are nicely updated while maintaining the buildings historical charm. Everyone hung us clean and comfortable. I recommend bookinghe bedroom suites with separate rooms.

I’ve enjoyed this book and paper store for years. The space is open and the staff are friendly. Last evening the place was filled with people enjoying a book reading.
The entrance is at ground level, so coming and going is easy for people with strollers and wheelchairs.
Parking is available but limited. Several parking spots are dedicated at book store patrons.

We’ve wandered down to Northfield many a Friday evening or late Sunday afternoon and been curious about this place…but it was always closed those hours. Thankfully, we had better timing this weekend and stepped inside.
How fabulous to be able to buy Wonderstate Coffee from Viroqua, WI, in Northfield! I had the Canopy Dark flavor – it is excellent. Several were asking for the Peru San Fernando coffee, and they were out. So, it must be excellent, too.
It was fun to watch fresh crepes being made right in front of us and the art of filling and folding them. The salmon one that is paired with dill is exceptional. So, very fresh tasting! I highly recommend them. There were no scones when we visited (I’ll try again), but the popovers were just baked.
A simple but excellent nutritious menu makes this cafe a place you’ll want to try. The staff were helpful, friendly, and seemed proud of where they work – that says a lot. I love its homey atmosphere with the aprons hanging on the wall like we find the bakers and chefs wearing in Amish country.
There is a row of side tables across from the ordering station, with additional booth and a bar seating in another room attached to the bike shop.
We plan to visit again and try more versions of their coffee and crepes. It’s easy to find if you are strolling the downtown area. We’ve always been able to find a convenient street-side parking spot. However, it lacks clear exterior signage; the address is 422 Division St S, Northfield, MN 55057. Look for the Farmstead Bike Shop or bird sign along the sidewalk if you miss it.

The atrium dining at the tavern grill is fabulous. We’ve been blessed to be seated by the indoor fireplace some winter evenings. We value that they are a locally owned restaurant that provides an upscale casual dining atmosphere.
They have an allergen menu – and build-your-own plates include pizzas and salad, as well as burgers. The Chef Built Salads are wonderful.
The Thai Chicken Lettuce Wraps are my favorite appetizer – and often, I’ll order them for my lunch. The secret may be in the sesame lime sauce, which complements the Thai peanut chicken perfectly. The base of lettuce leaves is topped with red onion, crispy wontons, diced red peppers, and cilantro. The other salad that I highly recommend is the Mediterranean Chicken Salad. For entrees, I recommend the Shrimp and Scallop Skewer and Pan-seared Teriyaki Salmon.
The build-your-own burger is fun for kids and ensures that they eat the food you order for them. There are multiple sauce and toppings options to select from.
The Holiday Mule at Christmas was spectacular; music and conversation in the background can be too intense/loud.
Ample parking. Fantastic restrooms. Reservations are recommended – especially during busy days and dining hours. We’ve tried to reserve the patio during the summer, but it was only first come, first serve. It has two of the nicest outdoor fireplaces in the Twin Cities south metro. They also have outdoor space heaters. Management or staff decides on borderline days whether or not to have outdoor dining open. Even if you request to be by the firepit, I think it may get too cold for staff to run the service. We look forward to warmer spring months, as it is fun to take guests here.
The location is a bit tucked away but worth finding! Table service has always been good - cheerful and professional.

The best healthcare hospital in the world. I'm impressed and grateful every time I visit.
It is moving when guests and/or patients sit down at the piano.
Check out this display where they honor the pioneer women of the Mayo family.
