I grew up at this beach; made sandcastles, splashed timid people, listened to transistor radios with my friends while we tanned ourselves and slathered on copious amounts of baby oil, plus learned to swim, give cpr, do trick dives, also taught swimming lessons, and got lifeguard certified; found agates, made friends, made out with bad boys, fished, swamped our family canoe, caught frogs & turtles (which were ALWAYS returned back where we got them from by end of day: a family rule!...however with turtles sometimes they had a number painted on their back with nail polish for a carnival race ~ and sometimes found them again in following years!)
I even went ice fishing, ice skating and snowmobiling in Winter more than once!
As an adult, I came home from Chicago with my new husband (late 80s) for a visit and we went water-skiing for the first (& last) time ever! I'd tried getting up on them when younger, but wasn't strong enough, however I was in the best shape of my life at that time. This was my ONLY time ever actually getting up on waterskis, but I made the most of it, going around the lake 3 full times. The first time around, I dropped one ski and then skiied on a single ski the rest of the way ~ ~ the 2nd time around I went one-handed, casually waving to my family watching from the Joy Park side of the Lake like I was in a parade. The 3rd time, I had both hands outstretched, as if I were flying, and was holding the tow rope between my teeth. Just as I glanced to my right to make sure everyone saw me, I lost my balance, and went tumbling. I had envisioned doing my finish by dropping the rope handle and slowly gliding down into the water, but instead I fell backwards and got so much water up my nose from the momentum of still moving forward, that big long strings of snot that didn’t even look real were plastered to my face, hair, chest and arms once I was finally pulled back into the boat...And we still had to go looking for BOTH pieces of my swimsuit before delivering me back to my family. Very memorable. Hahaha!

Bargain shopping at an Aldi AND a Dollar Tree? What MORE can a true penny-pincher WANT?
OKAY, I'll tell ya: around the corner on Lexington, the Papa Murphy's take-n-bake pizzas are bargain priced on Tuesdays. If you haven't had the Chicken Bacon Artichoke with Alfredo Sauce on the super thin DeLite crust, you should give it a go. Mmmmmm!
