Best Breakfast restaurants in Austria

Hard to believe there's so many 5 star reviews. Must be their own friends. The only reason this is not a 1 star review is that the bread was very good and the carrot cake was not amazing, but still good. Other than that, our experience was terrible. I rarely write reviews, so If I took the time to say that is was terrible, it's because I mean it.

We entered the place and wasn't greeted by anyone for about 5 minutes. Several tables were full of dirty dishes. After actively asking someone for a table, a young lady set us down in a dirty table, that wasn't clean for another several minutes. After about 10+ minutes in the place, someone took our order: bread with cheese, couple of coffees and a cake. The cake arrived first. The bread a few minutes later and the coffees, I KID YOU NOT, about 20 minutes later. The latte was served in the most imbecile ceramic cup possible, with no handle, which means that it was quite cold, since no one would be able to hold it if it was hot. The dripped coffee was more transparent than a regular tee and also quite cold.

During the long waiting times we could see that the employees use the same rag to clean several things, including drying the dishes coming out of the dishwasher. Hygiene and overall cleanness was a strong down point.

In the end the experience was terrible. I'm no boomer but I know I sound like one when I say that the service was absolutely amateurish, to say the least. It really felt like all grown ups were on holiday and the place was left in the hands of not particularly competent 20yos. It was way to expensive for what it was and we do not recommend!

This edit is an answer to the disgusting answer that the owner did below.

After sending my review I've seen that the place already have numerous bad reviews complaining about the same things that I complained about: hygiene, long waiting time, bad service, cold coffee. So if the owner really plans to send their lawyers on customers (like he threatens to do to me), there will be quite some work for them..

Bullet points:
- coffee wasn't 95º. That's almost boiling point. It was barely above body temperature.
- 5 minutes here, another 3-5 there. The waiting times are ridiculous, as stated by many other reviews.
- "house was busy". I've lived in 5 different countries, been to hundreds of cafes and I have worked at the industry myself. A small cafe with a dozen tables and 4 employees simply can't run like this. There's no excuse, your service just suck.
- I saw the rag thing with my own eyes, not to mention that it was already commented in other reviews. Good luck disproving that.
- Don't bother ban me, I'm never coming back.

And last but not least, if you really are a grown up (not 20yo) start acting like one. Use the time you employ writing threats to customers to train your staff.

If you were a customer of your own business, I bet your review would be absolutely atrocious.

I tried this really lovely nice breakfast cafe in town, the food was so delicious, the juice is freshly squeezed, the coffee is so good and nice. Reminded me with home, cuz it’s really hard to get a specialty coffee outside. I like the ambience so good. ☕️ 🍳

Loved the breakfast here. We ordered the scrambled eggs and the granola bowl and both were superb. The cappuccino was the best I’ve had in Austria. The carrot cake suggested by the server was out of this world.

The Sandwich is amazing 100% recommend, Filter coffee takes a while but you won’t regret it, would be great if it has more places for seating but having a place small like this gives you also a very comfy atmosphere. Be ready to share your table with other people as there are not many places to seating. 5/5

perfect coffee break place with friends and your partner! i keep finding myself here and each time it's definitely worth it. Starting from their hospitality, kindness, fun, etc., everything is just what you look for as a young soul. The owners are incredible people (shoutout to them 🤍)

i definitely recommend their delicious cakes, also my favourite: chai latte. they were nice about it when I specified what exactly I wanted. (I'd recommend it done with Oat Milk and less sweeten)

Sehr gute Beratung, leider war allerdings das Fleisch nicht in der passenden Größe vorhanden und wir mussten dann ein anderes Essen. Qualität war sehr gut. Der oktupus wurde von dem grünen Soße etwas geschluckt. Das gelbmakrelentatar war ausgezeichnet. Service ausgezeichnet.

A nice place with a very cosy ambiance. The waiters are also friendly.

It is located opposite the main entrance road to the fortress and love bridge of Salzberg.
It is the most economical place for a meal or refreshment among all places in surroundings. Though, the sitting may not be comfortable for old age people.
It is kind of a self-service bakery.. in other words.. They provide you freedom of choosing items by yourself.

When returning to a much loved fine dining restaurant after several years, there’s always that nagging concern that it won’t be quite as wonderful as you remembered. On this occasion my worries were unfounded as this was perhaps even greater an experience than I had hoped for.

I’d forgotten to mention in advance my wife’s new and quite extensive list of food intolerances and the staff dealt with this without batting an eyelid. The 5-course lunch menu was amazing, we were visited by the famous Steirereck trolleys (bread and cheese), which produce a Pavlovian response from my salivary glands and the wine pairing was excellent too.

This restaurant has been top 25 in the world for several years now and it thoroughly deserves that recognition.

Super cute restaurant. Everything was delicious and the staff super friendly. We had vegan cake, eggs and a sandwich and were very pleased with our brunch. Great coffee as well > normal and vegan.
No reservations possible but we luckily got a table for two.

Hier sollte man etwas ändern. Beim Eingang unfreundlich und ohne Gruß gestoppt mit den Worten: "Ihr müsst hier warten!" Danach fühlt man sich nicht mehr wohl und sucht sich in Zukunft einen Mitbewerber, wo man ums Eck freundlich und nett behandelt wird.

The tomahawk wasn't the highlight, but the Wagyu and lamb were perfect, as well as the butter and wine. We waited an hour for our order, but the place was really pleasant.

Frühstück reichlich und top. Bedienung sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Lokal sauber modern eingerichtet. Sehr empfehlenswert! Reservieren nicht vergessen😉

Yummy bagels, nice coffee, friendly staff and great location!

Fantastic and super enjoyable experience. We've ordered the 6-course menu and since you can choose different options for the courses it turns out to be a 12-couse tasting menu if you share. Very creative with great service and a little explanation card for each course. The bread and cheese carts are fenomenal!

Erlebnisgastronomie auf höchstem Niveau! Das Steirereck im Wiener Stadtpark hat zwar nicht die beste Lage, aber dafür den besten Service den ich je erleben durfte! In Punkto Service am Gast sicherlich unschlagbar und einzigartig.
Vom Empfang bis zum Ende des Abends wurden wir außerordentlich gut bedient.
Kommen wir zum Essen, geschmacklich waren alle Gänge sehr durchdacht, aufwendig und hervorragend zubereitet.
Das Preis Leistungsverhältnis bei Essen ist wirklich grandios.
Die Weinkarten sind sehr umfangreich und hier findet mit Sicherheit jeder etwas passendes für sich.
Die Getränke sind teuer, wenn man allerdings den enormen logistischen Aufwand und die steigenden Kosten miteinbezieht, keine negative Kritik wert.
Zusammenfassend und ganz besonders erwähnenswert sind die hervorragenden Mitarbeiter, die einen Besuch im Steirereck zu einem Erlebnis machen!

I have to say that it’s really a bad experience!! I asked water for two times. I have ordered the juice and they didn’t give me. When we paid the bill, the staff even went to chat with the other guest and ignored us. Food is not bad, but rubbish service will lead to that we will no go there again.

Der perfekte kulinarische Abend!

Im Restaurant Steirereck stimmt jedes Detail: Man wurde über den ganzen Abend hinweg durch ein Gedicht getragen….von dem bekannten Brotwagen, über perfekte Gerichte, zu kleinen Grüßen aus der Küche zwischen den Gängen.

Das Personal war zuvorkommend, kompetent und überaus bemüht den Kunden jeden Wunsch zu erfüllen. Die Summe ist ein unvergessliches Erlebnis. Vielen Dank!

This is the best 2 stars restaurant I have tried so far. Services was wonderful, but food was completely exceptional. Bread was great too. We loved the blood bread so much even if it was our first try.

Everything was perfect from the moment we entered untill the moment we left. The food was prepared to perfection. The bread cart was and exquisite idea with selection of many different breads. Ich weiß gar nicht wo ich anfangen soll. Dieser Abend war von vorne bis hinten einfach unbeschreiblich schön und unvergesslich. Man wird super freundlich empfangen und zum Tisch begleitet. Alle! sind sowas von aufmerksam und freundlich, aber nicht aufdringlich, sondern zuvorkommend. Das Essen war unfassbar lecker. Da kann jedes andere Steakhaus einpacken. Jedes Gericht wird erklärt und mit Liebe zubereitet. Die Beilagen waren ausgezeichnet gut und wir waren perfekt satt, es war nicht Zuviel und wir waren sehr gut gesättigt. Das Highlight des Tages war jedoch der Nachtisch. Wir hatten bei der Reservierung angegeben, dass es sich um meinen Geburtstag handelt und dementsprechend wurde der Nachtisch auch zubereitet (siehe Bilder). Ich verstehe einige negativen Bewertungen hier absolut nicht und wir werden definitiv nochmal kommen, wenn wir nochmal in Wien sind. Hier stimmt nicht nur das Essen, sondern das Gesamtpaket (Service, Location etc.)

PS: nach unserem Dinner wurden wir noch bis nach oben!! zum Weihnachtsmarkt begleitet und konnten diesen tollen Abend mit einem heißen Glühwein beenden.

Excellent fine dining Austrian restaurant option in Vienna. From the moment you walked in you are warmly welcomed by a friendly staff who seated us rite away. It offers a tasting menu as well as a la carte option. We selected a la carte and weren’t disappointed. Every dish is carefully prepared and presented. Great ambience and attention to every detail. Highly recommended if you want to experience a great dining experience in Vienna.

The 7-Course menu was a wonderful experience. The cheese, bread, and wine sommeliers were outstanding and exceptionally knowledgeable about their fields. It is truly one of the best dinners I have ever had the honor of experiencing.

Absoluter Hammer! Selten ein so tolles, zuvorkommendes und vor allem fachkundiges Service-Team erlebt. Immer gut aufgelegt und sehr aufmerksam.
Ein tolles Ambiente und das hervorragende Essen haben einen schönen Abend abgerundet (Mittagessen gibt‘s übrigens nicht!)

I came here for breakfast. It was outstanding; the staff was super friendly and helpful, with great vibes. The food was delicious, and the coffee was perfect.
Also, I came at night and tried their steak; it was delicious; I didn’t need to add any sauce! The pumpkin soup was absolutely fantastic!

The best:

- the place is very cozy and nicely decorated
- cakes are nice

To improve:

- the 3 times i have been here, the 3 rimes the same situation. They had a big indoor area, which would be ideal for people to enjoy and relax, especially for those like me that love having a coffee and reading a book or even doing some computer work. But, they close one section so it cannot be used and people needs to sit crammed on one side only
- they only have one power point, so not very computer friendly spot.
- i paid 6.90 euros for a large coffee. I find it quite expensive

Ausgefallenes Essen zu guten Preisen in guter Lokation. Meist ist es ziemlich voll, kann sein dass man ein paar Minuten aif einen freien Tisch wartet. Das Frühstück ist total rießig und wieder sehr lecker. Die Mittags Bowl auch empfehlenswert, rochtig gutes Dressing. Einzige Mangel, das Hühner Fleisch war etwas zäh. Doe Marille Maracuja Lemonade ist jedes mal mein Go-To Drink.

this was the best cheesecake I've ever had!
16€ is really a lot for it, but it's quite filling, so you will leave happy!

the crust was really light, so it's not as dense as it might seem on the first sight. the combination of the cheesecake filling inside and the tasty cream on top is perfect! They used a lot of natural vanille!

In the Sicilian Restaurant, they refilled our water glasses for free, which was really nice!

The espresso is well balanced, sometimes it dips a bit into some levels of acidity but not too much. The staff is very friendly, the atmosphere is amazing. I've truly fallen in love with this place. The food is amazing too

Picked up a sandwich from here which was very good. Liked the bread and filling inside , it was really well made. Self service, to pick up what you need in a tray and bill and then take out or sit and eat.

They definitely have earned their two Michelin Stars. The most beautiful building right in the park.

What an experience!
I dined at Steirereck 10 years ago with my parents and went back last week on Sep 18. They never disappointed me. My partner and I had a wonderful 5 course lunch with a bottle of red wine. The bill came over 600 euros but it was worthy every single penny. Every dish was tasty and outstanding with artistic presentation. The service was just excellent. Highly recommend it.

We had a coffee in a nice place

Popped in here this morning for breakfast for 2. We both got the cardamom latte and the French toast butter croissant. Both were incredible. The drizzle in the croissant picture is maple syrup. It was so good I nearly ordered a second one on the spot. I highly recommend stopping in if you have the chance. This food is not to be missed.

There’s no airco so it’s boiling hot inside. I came to work for an hour but wifi connection was unstable, so had to use my own hotspot. Also, not suitable to make calls as there’s background music everywhere. But this seems to be the place to be and hang out for young locals in the city

Tolles Lokal zum vegan essen! Es gibt laut Kellnerin aufgrund der Nachfrage bald eine neue Karte mit noch mehr veganen Gerichten. Super!

Der Faker war richtig gut und die curly fries auch. Es gibt auch veganes Frühstück.

Didi Restaurants never disappoint. Food and service are always great. It's my favorite place for a Chai Latte 😍 Variety of Healthy Breakfast as well.

I have eaten here quite a few times for lunch. The wait staff are really pleasant and attentive. The pizzas are delicious and I'm never left feeling hungry!

This is a lovely cafe next to the beautiful coloured buildings but outside of the busy main square. We had the house made granola (with figs, yoghurt, honey and poached fruits) and the scrambled eggs - both were delicious. We also had a coffee with oat milk (often a rarity in Austria!) and a beautiful carrot juice. All were very well priced. We enjoyed sitting in the relaxing atmosphere. The staff were very friendly.

Vorab eine relevante Info: Hotel und Restaurant gehören nicht zusammen.

1. Besuch: warme Küche bis 21:00 Uhr. Wir haben um 20:45 eine Nachspeise bestellt. Rückmeldung aus der Küche, die Bestellung wird nicht mehr gemacht. Gespräch mit der Restaurantleitung und die Nachspeise würde zubereitet.

2. Besuch: Ich bekam die Karte zum Abendessen, das Restaurant war halbvoll. Als ich bestellen wollte, würde mir gesagt, dass es nur Pizza gibt. Ich Frage nach weshalb und bekamm die Antwort, weil 2 Gruppen da sind. Ich sagt, dass ich gestern schon Pizza hatte und keine möchte. Leider kein Entgegenkommen . Ich habe das Restaurant gewechselt.

Fazit: Die Küche hat hier eindeutig das Sagen.

Die Qualität nimmt bei kontinuierlich ab.

Essen und Bedienung sehr gut! Gerne wieder!

We came to have breakfast here with a group of 9 people during our stay in Salzburg and everyone loved the food and drinks so much that we came back two more times to enjoy a nice breakfast here.

The waiters and waitresses were very kind and took our orders quickly and even though we were a big group, our orders arrived super fast and everything was delicious, the coffees were also tasty.

We absolutely recommend coming here if you would like to have a nice breakfast and a good coffee.

If you in Wien don’t forget to order at least 1 mount before ! Enjoyed there very much and I do waiting to visit again - Chapeau team ! 🏆

Hinter dem Tennisplatz verbirgt sich ein sehr hübsches und recht geräumiges italienisches Restaurant. Wir bekamen erfreulicherweise auch ohne Reservierung einen sehr hübschen Tisch. Das Personal war super-freundlich und total auf Zack. Das Essen kam ziemlich zügig und schmeckte wirklich lecker!! Und was für mega-Portionen!! Papp-satt und rundum glücklich haben wir das Anniva verlassen und hoffen auf eine baldige Wiederkehr! Klare Empfehlung! 👍

I came to Austria to experience the 13th restaurant in the world. I booked eight people for lunch. When I arrived, I was told that I couldn’t order a lunch set, so the whole lunch didn’t end until 3:30 pm. The overall creativity of dishes and sauces is satisfactory.

This place is so beautiful and food is awesome!! We had ordered for latter and turneric latte alongwith avacado toast n veggie omlette!! Reallly so so good!! One can sit here and spend a lot of time reading or surfing.. very cute cafe with amazing drinks and food!!

Food was good. Service was ok, quick service but the prices on the menu were different than on the bill few euros different per dish and we asked for a normal coke and get a big one for almost 6 euro,

Had one of the best dining experiences of my life at Steirereck today that I felt compelled to leave a review. I did the 4 course lunch tasting. From the moment I sat down, the hospitality was palpable. Every dish I ordered was superb and the perfect amount of food for me to enjoy every single course until dessert. The Roebuck (main course) was a highlight, with the Young Celeriac (starter) a close second.

Having such high expectations based of the long standing accolades and awards for this establishment I am disappointed and frustrated to have to write such a negative review. I have been to many Michelin restaurants and I have never left so underwhelmed. This would be my least favorite Michelin restaurant and chef’s menu, to date.

1) The total dining experience was over 4 hours. While I am in no rush, I found no desire to stay as long as we were there. Had there been dishes or an experience that peaked my interest I’d be happy to stay this long. We did not have the first course till after an hour and fifteen. The courses were spaced anywhere from 20-40 minutes apart after last bite of previous course. We were utterly bored.

1A) While service wasn’t bad, the attentiveness was not there. At Michelin caliber restaurants I expect the table to be immaculate and cleaned after each meal, this never occurred. This is picky, but it’s what to be expected at this level of restaurant.

2) The food was flat, nothing stood out to me and while it had many ingredients that I was excited to try together I did not find any complexity to the dishes. There have been Michelin restaurants where I remember specific dishes, there was unfortunately not one tonight. I found the plating and presentation of the food repetitive, it was the same presentation for each dish, the server would spoon out of a measuring cup for each dish (this is picky, but part of these dining experiences is the art of presentation and it felt lazy)

3) The wine pairings, while not bad, were very similar. I expect exciting different elements to compliment the dishes, did not feel it was adequate.

I am sorry to have to write this review and I am hopeful that this was an off night or week (although a restaurant of this caliber and rating should not have this).

Very, extremely rude lady waiter (middle aged middle length hair brunette). Even if you close soon it's not a reason to raise voice and throw inventory yelling you're closing.

Great self-service bakery. It's not a traditional bakery but it is good. It's basically like Austrian Greggs but better quality and nicer atmosphere. Prices are very reasonable as well.

You can eat in or take away. There's room to seat about 12 people. Very good spot to load up on an extensive selection of both sweet and savoury baked goods as well as bread rolls (if you wanted to make a sandwich later on) if you plan to go out for the day.

They also have self service coffee machines and a fridge cabinet with salads, yoghurts and soft drinks.

You'll need to grab a tray and a paper sheet, even if you plan on taking away, and then you'll be given bags at the till.

Staff were very friendly.

I had high expectations for this 2 star Michelin restaurant but it was disappointing. The outside and location inside the park probably contributed to the extra star. It is nice inside but the table we had was awkward with and view of the serving carts and had a hanging bulb since the overhead light was broken. Shocked to see the service done with rolling carts. The wine server was rushing from table to table placing down bottles,quickly rambling the type of wine and taste pairings then running off. He would come back and pick up the bottles two minutes later. Service was not close to two star quality. The 6 courses were good but nothing impressive or unique. This is a one star restaurant in a two star location.

Kaffee war gut und das Service an der Theke freundlich. Es gibt eine Stadion mit Kakopulver, Zucker, Zimt etc zur Selbstbedienung und Wasser, sowie infused Water zur freien Entnahme.
Im oberen Stockwerk ist ebenfalls reichlich Platz- ein gemütlicher Ort dür ein Coffee Date mit Freunden oder zum arbeiten am Laptop.

Nach telefonischer Zusage, dass wir mit 5 Hunden kommen dürften, sind wir zu dem Restaurant gefahren.
Vor Ort wusste scheinbar niemand von dem Telefonat, dass wir 10 Minuten vorher geführt haben. Zumindest wusste niemand was von 5 Hunden. Dabei haben wir das Aufgrund unserer Erfahrung extra deutlich am Telefon erwähnt.

Wir durften also trotz Voranmeldung nicht einkehren.

Den einen Stern gibt es für die Entschuldigung, dass wir nicht aufgenommen werden können.

I usually go there for a few work hours and it’s always nice and comfortable. The coffees are great and the bagels are delicious! The staff is very kind. The atmosphere is calm and comfortable too. I highly recommend for a take-away coffee or for a lazy stay with a good coffee on hands.

Waren dort zum Brunch. Der Kaffee ist gut, das Ambiente auch. Schade ist, dass die Kaffeetassen aussen alle dreckig waren (Kaffeesatz und übergelaufener Kaffee). Das Rührei mit Gemüse hat nicht wirklich nach etwas geschmeckt und die Pancakes waren kalt und etwas zäh. Pfeffermühlen waren auch alle leer. Warum ich 5 Euro Trinkgeld gegeben habe weiss ich nicht...

What an absolute gem of a place! We sampled a range of their vegetarian sandwiches and all of them were absolutely delicious! The bread was soft, chewy and full of flavor and all of the ingredients (from vegetables to cheese to eggs) were fresh and of great quality. The blueberry muffin was even delightful - freshly baked and stuffed with blueberries! Honestly cannot fault this place. Super quick self serve process and extraordinary prices and value. And what's better? You can take the food out to the riverside and enjoy it there. 10/10 experience!

Wow the lady waitress is awesome, very careful but this waiter is the worse I ever had. Not even saying thanks or hello. Basics are gone for him. Please fire this idiot…

When I was young early 80s, my mums village was our summer vacation destination, all around you just pure nature, sheep are eating normal grass. This cuisine was the only place for 3 decades took me bk then.

Atmosphere was unique.
Service was great.
Staff a bit formal but matching the culture and atmosphere purpose.
Luxury experience.

Brunch ist im Bakery empfehlenswert. Leckeres, frisch gebackenes Brot und Gebäck, liebevoll angerichtetes Essen. Preis Leistung prinzipiell okay. Finde für Wasser extra zu verlangen obwohl man dort isst und trinkt jedoch schwierig, hab zum Kaffee ein großes Glas Wasser bestellt 0,80€, das kleine wurde mir gratis dazu gebracht. Ohne Reservierung hat man nur wenig Chancen auf einen Tisch.

Sehr leckeres und abwechslungsreiches Essen. Nicht nur sehr gute Pizza 👍. Das Personal ist sehr nett und aufmerksam. Auch die Wartezeit aufs Essen ist kurz.

Good coffee, unfortunately the smoking ban is very tedious in winter. In summer it is nice to relax outside with a cigarette and a good cup of coffee.

Das Restaurant ist zwar optisch schön, aber leider reicht das alleine nicht. Sowohl die Suppe als auch die Beilage der Hauptspeise waren komplett versalzen. Nachdem ich die Beilage reklamierte erhielt ich erneut eine versalzte. Das ist meiner Meinung nach für einen Preis von 8€ für eine Frittatensuppe und 27€ für ein Lachssteak zu viel. Fazit: Preis Leistung sehr schlecht. Das war definitiv mein letzter Besuch!

Went to restaurant on Christmas day and it was lovely! Great prosecco and delicious food. My husband got their schnitzel with potatoes and I got the salmon steak. For dessert, we got the vanilla creme brulee. Both meals and dessert were flavorful and would definately recommend! Although, keep in mind if you are thinking about coming here, it is fairly expensive. Most entrees are over €20. Very good restaurant for special occasions.

Very bad punsch (Austrian Christmas drink) coffee is probably good but don’t expect friendly waiters or other special beverages or food to be good

Service is not as it used to be. Some of the waiters behaves as if they are the owner of the hotel.

Ein Kaiserschmarren der Künstlich schmeckt.
Fisch Trocken,Beilagen Trocken
Der"Grand Guckelhupf" schon beim abschneiden einer Scheibe merkt man das dies nicht der frischeste ist.

Und für all dies 58 Euro pro Person zu verlangen ist eine Frechheit.

Really great place. Restaurant is located at the 1st floor of the Grand Hotel Vienna. if you enter the beautiful Foyer just head up the stairs to the right. Bar and toilets are on the opposite side to the left. You sit there overlooking the Lobby / Entrance hall and / or the Ringstrasse, as one prefers. There are
few walls, just glass. So its like a big Open space. And the Lobby is Extraordinary elegant, propably one of the most beautiful ones we have here. With tradition. Newly renovated, but one of the oldest Ringstrassen-Hotels. Founded 1870. Recently bought by an Austrian-Saudi Business man. Sometimes they have a Piano Player downstairs. Check the Pics on the web-page. Food is also great, and big advantage: Open nearly 24/7. Daily 06:30 - 24:00. Great breakfast and Sunday brunch until 3pm. Next Time i will make some Pics, if i dont forget, i promise. But be aware: there is an even better Restaurant at the 7th Floor: Le Ciel.

Delicious food of Viennese style and flavours. Halal food served on their Arabic menu. Foods are cooked well. Great flavours. Wonderful ambience sitting on the balcony of the first floor overlooking the piano being played. Chandeliers look regal.
